Dog Slick Treeing (Help)

I bought a 6 year old male with some decent paperwork.
The dog hunts hard, decent tree dog but I have yet to see eyes. I’ve given him the benefit of the doubt on some because of big oaks with a lot of hiding spots, dens etc.

Anything I can do to help or identify if it’s just him missing? I’ve never been that great @ finding the coons unless they are looking anyway.

I’m getting some quality exercise in so there’s that.

Coons can be hard to find, but if you've yet to see eyes, I'd say he's missing. I've bought and sold a lot dogs and I'll say this, a new dog will "try you" and some it takes a while for them to actual perform for you. My experience has been a new dog don't try hard to please a new owner like he does the old owner, therefore, it does what's easy instead of working for the right results ..... that's one reason why new dogs won't go hunting/hunt as hard, slick tree, run or tree trash when you first get them.

You are more than right dmack8. I have been trying hounds and can’t find one but people only give 1 or 2 week trials. Typically that’s not enough to get trust.

Morand I’m gonna tell you I think you got a slick treeing hound. Try circle the tree in about 15 yard circle and recut him away from the track he came in on. This helps but if this dog has missed and got away with it than he will be tough to break. Stop giving him the benefit of doubt unless it has a hole in it. Coons will look go with someone who has solid dog. You will find them. Good luck.
