Aggressive Dogs Toward Other Dogs When On Track

Have you ever encountered dogs that would attack other dogs when they were trailing? In my years of hunting I have often seen dogs shouldering each other when the dogs were first released, but have only seen a few instances there a dog would actually run down and attack the dog that was ahead of them on track.
How often does this occur and is it a genetic trait?

It is genetic. A little lead pill is the only cure.

Back in the late 70's early 80's there were a litter of dogs here in Minnesota that would fight when released and at the tree' I hunted against a female out of that litter, with a male I owned. 4 dog cast she chewed 2 of the dogs up before the 1st. tree and caught mine on a tree and almost killed him. Non hunting judge. wouldn't scratch her, Never hunted that dog in comp. again. Earlier I had hunted with 2 male litter mates to female. The owners hauled the 2 males in the back seat of a car and I and the other cast member hauled the other 2 dogs in his pickup. we released the dogs and the two litter mates proceeded to try to kill each other. I was the judge and scratched both dogs. All the dogs in that litter were big, all were over 80# I believe. To this day they were not full hound,(?) Although they looked like full hounds. I also heard that every dog in the litter was like this.

Only once. I had a pup off Doc and a Psycho bitch named Hutchins Suger. He was right at a year old and had balled up with every dog I turned him with. The last thing he ever did was run down my old dog in a beanfield. Never saw such a thing before or since.

That's what Trudy was out of and she was the most gentle dog I have ever owned she fell off a bluff and died , I did breed her to a bellar breed dog and those pups were mean as rattlesnakes at least the ones I heard about ,

Ill on track

My experiences were with very good friends that brought these dogs to pleasure hunt. Initially it sounded like a coon had been caught on the ground, but there was never a dead coon or a track away from the fight area. Sometimes the dogs would be running a red hot track and then total silence. One was a sister to Doc's mother from Mo. One was Spring River Scout and original Harry, another was a local female out of the original Harry and one was line bred Sackett and Harry. Good friends are hard to come by should be more valuable than a dog but this really tested the friendship. My friends were in denial that they had mean dogs. It got to a point that we'd either drop their dog or mine. I've seen four of these dogs in over 40 years and I'd say it is hereditary. I've also seen it in field trial dogs. My friends no longer have these dogs and the only reason that I bring this up is to help the young hunters that may be experiencing poor performance out of their dogs because their mentors dogs are meaner than a two headed alligator.
This is not meant to offend anyone, but to help hunters who just can't believe that a friend would bring a mean dog for a pleasure hunt.

I've seen plenty of mean dogs on tree, but don't remember ever seeing one run down and attack another dog on track.

Bought a nice young dog , 13 months olds, trees three coons the night I tried him for 3 thousand dollars, carried him home from Texas, went
Hunting the next night with friends and discovered I had bought one that would jump on dogs that were trailing with him. Only one I ever seen do that.

i've seen it for over 30 yrs , its one of their traits. they are bred that way intentionally. down here in nc you see it all the time with certain kennels. one just won a popular hunt not long ago. thats why you always keep you a flame thrower handy in case you run into one of these fire breathing dragons, LOL. i'll huff and i'll puff and blow your dog down on the ground, let alone the tree. always keep you a flame thrower cause sometimes in order to stop a fire you have to start a fire.LOL

Denial is a powerful thing! Point of fact, I still feel 25!lol

Yes, I have seen it twice, and it was within two different lines of dogs.

I too, hunted with a guy like your friend. When I started kicking his dogs ribs in, he then remembered what he saw. Funny how that works.
