How would score this

You have a 3 dog cast. Dogs a strikes for 100 dog b for 75 dog c for 50. Dogs a and b are treed in that order about 300 yards in front of cast. The 5 is started and the cast starts easing that way. About 2 minutes into the 5 dog c is called split treed about 50 yards in front of cast. All dogs are now treed so cast proceeds toward dogs a and b
As they pass dog c judge gives permission for handler to handle and tie dog which he does then proceeds with cast to dog a and b to score their tree. They are handled and tied and while shining the tree dog c comes into this tree. He had chewed his lead into how should he be scored.

Real tough break but he has to be minused for leaving his tree.

The

Worst part is now you have to use your belt for a leash and hold your pants up with one hand the rest of the hunt.

But they left out the part about dog C getting minused his strike points if dogs A & B have a coon. So the total scoring for dog C is 125- tree and 50- strike if A&B have a coon or 50 circle if they don't.

My thoughts exactly! Cable or chain lead will stop that chewing on leads. Dave

Delete dog C strike and tree interference before they could score it. He already was pulled back off the tree and tied up dogs are taught not to go back on tree when they are loose. Next time use a cable lead or don't tie him up till you get to him to score the tree. defiantly interference!!

Well, that all sounds good but nothing in the rule book supports it.

Judge told me to tie mine we went on to other dogs tree bout 300 yards away she got quite for 20 seconds when we started squealing and then went back to treeing and when we got back to her she had chewed mine in two she did that for meanice because she thought I didn't trust her they are smarter than we think she had her coon also.

Fix the "root cause" make the dog stop chewing & make him stay at his own tree.

The idea of interference is too often over applied.

Todd,
What you expect a dog to be fully trained before going to a competition ... hmmm pretty high expectations.

I learned this ruling, from personal experience, after a similar scenario in the late 90's.

I know I am getting soft but if the guy is being a gentelman and I saw him handle his dog before we shine our tree I would tell him to go tie his dog back up.

We had a three-dog cast. The dogs ran a short track and treed. Two of the three. My gyp trailed another 50-60 yards and also treed. While they were handling their dogs, I went and handled mine. She was on a dead snag that was only about 8' high. I could easily see the coon hanging on the side of the snag. I tied her to a small sapling, not thinking much of it and went back to help the guys shine their tree. The first tree was an obvious den but we were squalling and carrying on trying to get a coon to look somewhere. Amidst all the racket of squalling, I notice my gyp trailing on down through the woods and comes treed again on the edge of the woods. We really didn't know how to score it either. Nonetheless, she did have the coon in that tree on the edge of the woods and it actually worked out in my favor that she stripped her lead off that sapling and left that snag. Otherwise, she'd have taken a minus both ways, had she stayed, when it came to time to score it. That's one of the reasons this ruling always stuck with me.

Probably need to consider potential problems that might come with doing so. I can think of several.

How so ? At that distance I can tell that he is back on the same tree if I am the judge I can go with him if needed and watch him tie him. But I would hate to minuse him if he had a coon and we had a slick ain't our local hunts for learning anyways believe me there's been times I wanted to chew the leash into myself to get them away from what was in the tree or somtimes nothing.

To be teacher you got to teach you can't expect everybody to learn everything over night but I know what you are saying I get it.
