To hunt or not to hunt?

I have an old hound, that has been a good friend to me for many years. He is not in very good health, arthritis being his main issue. He still has the ambition to go but he is pretty much worn out. I know hunting him could kill him, but I am breaking the old mans heart every time I load the young dogs up and go without him, and in turn breaking my own heart. So to hunt or not to hunt, that is the question?

Put him on a low dose anti inflammatory and hunt him. Talk to a vet and get some pointers on what to use.. l have arthritis in the knees and hips but l can hunt a plenty with a couple anti inflammatory. Yes he will be sore but he will know when he has had enough.

Take him with you and leave the hunting up to him. He'll know when to quit.

He deserves to go. I give mine a joint suppliment. Little bisquit type. Works wonders.

.

Think you were given some good advice. Actually your post sounds like what my dog is thinking about me. LOL

My wife for many years when she saw how I came home all sore and grumpy. Told me I should stay home more. I told her this hunting was going to kill me someday. She then started encouraging me to go.

Bruce, some nights despite the pain and lack of energy, I wish that a young dog would just load me up and take me hunting.
