Honest

It's like Jim said in another post. The rules used to judge a nite hunt are not designed to define what a coondog is,they are only the rules of a game. If you enjoy playing that game then by all means search out stock that fit the parameters. If the game is not for you then, the style of dog that is winning the game should have no affect on what you call a coondog.
The definition of a coondog can take on a different meaning to each of us, and by attempting to make a standard or set of rules only causes folks to breed to those rules. Again making it a game, and most people that play any game do so to win.
You can hang any label that you want on a dog, honest, dishonest, hot nosed, cold nosed, and the list goes on to include the things we like or don't like, and it still doesn't change the fact, it's a game.

Therein lies the problem. To some people it is not a game, it is a way of life. And they get very upset when someone threatens their way of life.

Now thus is an honest post and a very good one at that. I have never been influenced by what dogs were winning the hunts, unless they were my type if coondogs. We all have choices and should not think one is better than the rest. Old saying " one man's junk is another man's treasure". Hunt what you like and don't worry about the other man's dogs. Dave

I am 1 that likes a coon hound. I like a hound to take the 1st track it comes across and work it out to the end weather it be a hot track or an old feeder track. I want a hound to stay treed until I get there. I want a hound to check its tree before it commits to a tree. I don't want a hound to stop its track just to go cover a dog that gets treed. I don't want to hunt a babbler. So I guess that's why I enjoy my pleasure hunting and go to very few hunts. My Hound isn't perfect, but she is the 3rd hound I've owned in 35 years that I can call a hound not a dog.
