Youth

Oh my goodness, y'all say that there are no young coon hunters so there is no future but 70 Junior Pro's turned a dog loose in Salem, In last night.

Richard trust me I am rooting for their numbers to be good. That was the first thing I checked this morning. Here is what I came up with.

2017- 23 cast early Thursday
2017- 23 cast early Friday

2018- 18 cast early Thursday
2018- 20 cast early Friday

I think each year there was a couple 3 dog cast each year so the total numbers are not just 4x the number of cast but pretty close.

One hr hunt and only 2 cast didn't have a plus point winner. Not bad for a bunch of kids.

Richard there is a young man that hunted Thursday and won early with a pretty good Walker but he didn't win late. Last night he went back to his faithful Red Bone and won both rounds. Might have a Red Dog World Champion.

Lots of great youth events around the country but this is one that if you can get a kid qualified you should try..Great hunting, great atmosphere, vouchers for the kids to buy some things..Great auction with donated items and a prize pkg that is very very nice..Could easily implement this format into the ukc nationals for the kids in the summer hunt and start building a pot.Hats off to everyone who participates in any function to keep our sport going!!

This is our first year competing in this event and it is great!! Lots of prizes for the kids even if you don’t win. The atmosphere is awesome. Great judges, great kids who know there dogs. One of the most organized hunts I’ve ever been to!! They had a great free dinner for all kids parents, judges and guides with a nice banquet. The auction was awesome and somenice items that brought in thousands of dollars that goes 100% back to the youth program. All cast winners received $100 and they have a $1000 added open event hunt for the kids that don’t make it in the finals. The parents must stand back and let the kids do all the calling with no help, even in the younger age group. So it makes it a great hunt for the kids.

Now Bruce that dog may be Red in Color, but it has as much white in it as red . I think we were the only ones in the youth hunt that was actually hunting redbones. Lol.
Congrats to them both they have done some winning.

Thanks for the kind words fellows.

It was a very fun year and I think anyone that has an old dog laying around should find a kid and get it to them.

I enjoyed his winning and watching him smile more than any cast I ever won.

It was bittersweet breaking the team up last night but I sent him home with one that we going to roll with this competition year

But, once again, if you truly want to enjoy coon hunting find you a young man or lady and mentor them like that person did in your life.

Congratulations to all!!!

Billy Carter

You are a excellent example for all of us, what better way to get the youth involved with our sport! His wins were wins for all of us, especially you, you done more than talk the talk, you walked the walk! Dave
