Great article. Hard to expect guys and gals in the hunt community to be excellent show handlers. Do whatever it takes to find the qualities of every dog. Judge them on conformation. Showmanship does not count. If you need to reposition a dog, it is usually helpful to explain briefly why you are doing it. Consider it a learning experience. Everyone should be encouraged to bench the dog they are running. A great way to let everyone see your dog plus an opportunity to learn your dog's physical strengths. Judges should be encouraged to point out the dogs strengths and how those positive traits enhance performance. It always amazes me how many excellent structured dogs don't get benched. Maybe some don't understand that showmanship is not judged. Great to point out this article.
