Not trying to sound mean but if you can't get a dog over being gun shy you don't need to train a dog or you need a different dog.
My first "coondog" was gun shy . The day I sold her was under the tree busting squirrels with a 12 gauge. It's an easy fix if you use your brain.

I have my shooting range 40 yds from my hounds and it gets used a lot. I always get pups use to the noise by starting them off with quiet shells. I have someone playing with the pup while someone fires the gun several yds away. Positive experience and a occupied mind, a little common sence. 45 years and never seen one get gun shy

the only coonhound that I've had yet that was gun shy was also scared of coons too, treed tons of coons before she would ever grab one. Always just tied her way back when I shot coons out took 3 or 4 years before she got over it.
