The Southern Freeze, did the Robins know?

Back in mid February it got pretty could down here in Southeast Texas...many plants froze to death and at least 25 people died in Texas...lost power for about 4 days...had trouble finding gas and groceries...people were moving around staying with those that had propane or fireplaces... my dogs stayed in my insulated double garage...each dog has their own wire kennel for cold fronts...the dogs stayed in the garage for at least 7 or more days... I let them out 3 times a day for exercise...luckily no one was going to work so I was able to make time for them...we lost city water off and on for a while...just in the block I work in we lost several million dollar due to the freeze damage...some departments are still working on repairs...the freeze has created lots of overtime for some...

I ran a generator and one electric heater for the power outage and my wife and I stayed in one room on account that heater was barely enough to make it somewhat comfortable...

The Robins...

I have lived in Freeport, Texas since 1974 and have never seen Robins migrate down this far...I was raised in Edna, Texas about 90 miles west of here and we had Robins every winter...
I did a google search on Robin migration and was looking for cold weather migrations but did not find any information...I was looking on account I thought it had something to do with extra cold weather and I believe they knew what was coming...they were here a month before the hard freeze and there were quite a few Robins around and many stayed until mid March...
My grandpa was born in 1882 and I spent a lot of time with him and he taught me quite a bit about looking at nature for upcoming weather changes...sometimes it is watching animals act a certain way or maybe insects doing something unusual...back then they didn’t have a weather man giving the the forecast and they didn’t have google to google the weather...so they looked for other ways...

I was thinking cold weather when I saw the Robins but I didn’t think it would be that bad as what we went through...

Not all of them knew. Found several dead (presumably froze to death?) in my area, as did many other folks during and after the big freeze. But I've always noticed how they came through in advance of big cold fronts, so I would assume many were pushed farther south than normal in advance of the cold weather.
