 How to build a feeder bucket to attract more coon.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to build feeder buckets, or any other methods to attract more coon to train my new cur pups.

I use tires mounted on their rims. Drill some 2-3" holes in the tire. Insert corn, grape koolaid and water.

If you want the coon to climb to eat, take a tire off the rim, tie a rope on it to pull up the tree. Insert corn, koolaid and water. Pull up the tree.

Other folks I know use 5 gallon buckets. Insert a 1 1/2" - 2" piece of PVC pipe about 2-3" from the bottom of the bucket, then insert the ingredients you wish to use.

randy id go with the tire method,that way somebody walking throw the woods wont think much of it,just seal the bottom good to keep the water in it

i have used the corn in water but i like the bucket better i seen where the dog food is better for the coons and can make them have more young that just what i seen....

how do u keep the water and corn in the buckets with the hole in the bottom of the bucket ,i tried it once and all the corn and water came rushing out right away

With the bucket method you don't use water. On the inside of the bucket the pipe should be slightly angled downwards.

bear hunters buckets are perfect i used them last year and i use the cheapest dog food you can find hang at lest 5 o six feet off the ground i use #9 wire stretch between two trees and buy a lock loop that clicks on and off to hang them with makes it easier to fill them. the tire on rim is good too (hint ) take shelled corn fill 5 gal bucket about 3/4 full with corn you can take koolaid grape 1 pack is plenty fill to top with water and let ferment for 4 days, shore stinks but the only thing that will eat it is a coon then put it in the tire use a cup and funnel ( make shore that when you put it in the tire that the corn is covered with water) also i think it gets them drunk! so be careful drunk coon hunters and drunk coons don't mix.

It is illegal in most places to hunt raccoons over bait.

According to the Iowa DNR:


“Hunting” means any pursuing, hunting,
killing, trapping, snaring, netting, searching for or
shooting at, stalking or lying in wait for any game,
animal, bird or fish protected by the state laws or
rules adopted by the commission whether or not
such animal is captured, killed or injured

Feeding and Baiting Wildlife

Baiting is defined as the direct or indirect placing, exposing, depositing, distributing, or scattering of salt, grain, or other feed that could serve as a lure or attraction for wildlife to, on or over any areas where hunters are attempting to take them. It is legal to feed wildlife, with these exceptions:

* Bears may not be fed or baited for any reason, including photography or viewing, unless it is 30 days before bear season through the end of bear season on private land in bear zones 1, 2, 5 and 5A. See Bears.
* Baiting is not allowed on wildlife management areas.
* Migratory birds, wild turkeys, waterfowl or crows may not be hunted over bait if the hunter knows, or should reasonably know, the area is baited.
* An area is considered baited for 10 days following removal of the bait.
* Hunting deer over bait is prohibited Feb. 1-28.
* Alligators may not be hunted over bait.
