Question about leopard hounds

A young man got a catahula/ leopard cur. It has UKC papers but it said cur. Can this dog hunt with hounds even though it says cur?
I’ve never seen a set of papers on one

A catahoula and a leopard hound are two separate breeds with the only thing in common being their coat color on some dogs. Without seeing a photo of the pedigree, I would say no you could not hunt with the hounds. And if it’s a catahoula I am not sure if you could even hunt with the curs.

Thats the ukc name for that breed

I think they are in the herding group with the Australian shepherds. They cannot be hunted in the cur or hound hunts

In my neck of the woods back in the 1960s/70s the old timers called these all around leopard colored dogs Catahoula leopards, Catahoula curs or just leopards...the majority of these dogs, the ones I saw didn’t impress me as hunting dogs...bay pen bay dogs they were the best...it seems many just call them Catahoula’s without adding cur or leopard to the name...there are registries for the Catahoula...

Leopard cur is a hunting dog...it was created by JRichard McDuffie back in the 1960’s with some help from others that were interested in the breed...

In the last 6 or 7 years or so it was voted to change the name to leopard hounds...some of these dogs look pretty hounds...

Others have refused to change the name of the breed...
