 Transfer Of Co-Own

We recently purchased two dogs, as it turns out one of the owners will remain on one of the dogs as a co-own.

My question is this:
Does the owner need to sign off on the papers and then list himself as a successor?

Yes. And the "date of sale" would be the date that you became the new sole signatory.
