Opinions Please

I acquired a 2 year old Walker female not long ago. She supposedly had been worked with when she was a pup with scent drags and caged coins. That's about it. As far as I know she's sat up most of her life. The guy said she's never even been in the woods. She loads good and behaves well acts like she's plenty smart. I just took her because I felt sorry for her. My son, and I took her out alone last night and really didn't expect much well that's just what we got. Nothing! Sorry for the long post, but my question is she too far gone already being 2 years old, and never been hunted or should we keep taking her and hope something clicks? I just don't know what to do. Any advice would be much appreciated.

.

You need to treat her as you would a young pup when it comes to knowing what a coon is. Show her one and see what her response is. Then, if none, show her again. After her being around a few coon or even hunting with another dog some. You can make a judgement on your future with her.

We bought Our old Howler dog in 1995 she was 3 and had never been out of the pen but had 2 litters of pups. We finished her to a grnch, PKC silver ch, placed in the top 20 of the UKC world, won the grand part of the Arkansas UKC state hunt 3 years in a row, was in the top 16 in the state for PKC for 2 years and made the final 4 of the pkc state hunt both of those years. So no its not too late.

Darkwoods, after reading this, I think I would wait another year to start her. LOL

I gave my brother a pup once , he lived with my mom and dad on the other end of the farm , That pup never left the pen for 3 years but would bark every time we got treed close to him I made his brother a grnt at a little over a year old, my pup got killed and I took this one back from my brother after a month in the woods he was better than the one I had been hunting for 3 years that got killed , then my brother took him back and sold him lol for a lot of money his name was Magnum

Darkwoods

If you believe everything you've been told then let me tell you about Granny. Got her when she was just shy of 13. Blind in one eye and crippled in one leg from roomietism. She started quick when I started rolling her around cornfields in a wheelbarrow. She was a fast trackdog if I got a lot of rest during the day. Had a little trouble when it was wet seems the scent stuck in the mud on the wheelbarrow tire and she would run off the line. Made a goodern till she ran one over the riverbank. Slid outta the wheelbarrow , landed in the river and never came up. Sure was a good'ern and has got better ever year since.
