I see on Facebook where Dave Dean has passed. Great loss for the Bluetick breed and the coonhunting sport in general.

I never met the man personally, but I did speak with him on the phone once. Seemed like a very nice guy, and he had a true passion and love for the Bluetick breed that very few will ever be able to match. His passing is a huge loss for the breed and the coon hunting community.

I was very sad to hear the news today that Dave had passed. He was a true legend and icon in the coon hunting world, especially the Bluetick world. Trace the pedigree of the vast majority of the Blueticks hunting coon out there now and you'll find a Hammer dog in there, usually not very far back. My first dog came from him and we made numerous trips to his cabin to buy and breed Blueticks through the years. I was always captivated by his voice, knowledge and stories with his dogs. He will be greatly missed.

Truly sorry to hear about the passing of Dave. He was a good friend of mine. I met Dave many years ago when he was pushing Hammer 11 and Hammer 111. I bred a female to Hammer 11 and got to meet the man with the dark glasses and the black hat. That cross started the Misty River Line. Rest in piece my friend. Prayers for the family and friends.
