How's everyone done on these in the last year. I'm kind of surprised at the increases that I'm seeing. May not be the same for everyone. Hopefully, we can sustain this level of increase.

Mine went way up under Trump but has lost almost all of the gains under only 1 yr of Biden's rule. When you factor in inflation, it is only breaking even now. Three more years of democratic economics and all middle Americans will be broke.

I'm with Lincoln Financial Group. Allocation =39% Aggressive Growth, 51% Growth, 10% Current Income. At 12/31/2021, my 1 year return is 17.68%, and my 5 year return is 14.91%. Reading right from my 12/31 statement.

Note: My brother has done better than I have.

The Growth Fund (Fidelity VIP ContraFund SA35) has done significantly better than the Income and Aggressive Growth Funds. But, all have gained.

I don't mess with the allocations, just let it ride.

Feel bad for those losing, as that is certainly way outside the norms. If that's your case, you should definitely look into this. There's no reason anyone should be losing.

Your wife needs to look at how her 401k did in the years that Trump was in office compared to the year that Biden was in office. Your wife's 401k probably does great because of the money that she and her teachers union contribute to it. I wonder where her union gets the money that they contribute? Sounds like your wife could get a job as one of Biden's economic advisors.

Honey you should look at what has happened to your 401k since 12/31. Does that "return" include your contributions for the last year? Your 401k has to increase 7% just to keep up with Bidens inflation.

you fellas that are loosing need to spend a little less time grumbling on here and more time finding a new 401K manager...… No reason for types of losses you guys are describing....

The DOW was 23,000 when Trump took over. It was 36,000 when Biden took over. It is 35,000 today. That doesn't include the fact that our dollar amount is worth 7% less now due to inflation. If you had $100,000 in your 401k or IRA, you would have to have made $7,000 just to break even.

The Presidents get too much credit and/or too much blame for stock market performance. We operate in a WORLD ECONOMY!!! U.S. Stock Market Performance, Gas Prices, Food Prices, etc. don't really care who the U.S. President is.

But, if you want to follow the President narrative, here it is (DJIA at 12/31):

1980---963.99
1988---2,168.57
1992---3,301.11
2000---10,787.99
2008---8,776.39
2016---19,762.60
2020---30,606.48
2021---36,338.30

If we look at the gain over their term divided by their term years we have:

(1) Reagan---15.62%
(2) George HW Bush---13.05%
(3) Clinton---28.35%
(4) George W Bush---(2.03%)
(5) O'Bama---15.65%
(6) Trump---13.72%
(7) Biden---18.73% (Incomplete, hasn't served full term).

By this measure of ranking of Presidents, it's:
(1) Clinton (28.35%) by a longshot.
(2) Biden (18.73%) ---doesn't really qualify to be rated yet.
(3) O'Bama (15.65%)

If an invester gets in when the dow is at 2,000 and it goes up 2,000 points, a 100% increase, make more than the invester who gets in at 4,000 and it goes up 2,000 points, a 50% increase and with everything else equal?
