GRNITECH 'PR' Northern Blue Jet V - Stud Dog Thursday

This week takes us back to the Bluetick breed, and the late 80s. Mr. Ed Mead is synonymous with the Bluetick breed and GRNITECH ‘PR’ Northern Blue Jet V is one that left his mark on the breed, and coon hunting as a whole. Jet V was born in July of 1987 out of Jet IV and a female named Lady II. In this litter, 12 pups were born with 4 of them finishing out to GRNITECH. Those four were Jet V, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Hazard County, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Northern Blue Swamper, and GRNITECH ‘PR’ Mead’s Blue Gert.

It didn’t take long for Jet V to start producing pups. His first litter actually hit the ground in July of 1988, just a week after his 1st birthday. That was his only 1988 litter, but from 1989 all the way through 2000, he was bred consistently. And with the flexibility that semen collection and storage have provided hound hunters, Jet V has had multiple litters over the 2000s and late into the 2010s, as recent as June of 2018. Those litters have helped Jet V compile enough pups to rank 2nd all-time in the Bluetick breed for number of pups produced and 2nd all-time in the breed in number of titled pups produced. But let’s go back to the beginning.

One of Jet V’s most famous pups was born in July of 1989 when he had just turned 2 years old. National Grand Nite Champion of the 1997 Autumn Oaks, NGRNCH CH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Northern Blue Levi, was born out of a litter between Jet V and ‘PR’ Northern Blue Crystal. This was a 10-pup litter and in addition to Levi, NITECH ‘PR’ Northern Blue Jetta and NITECH ‘PR’ Norris’ Northern Blue Dan were also born. Levi is one of 9 Blueticks to win Autumn Oaks in its 63-year history, and Jet V and Levi will go down in history for that feat.

Fast forward to April of 1990 and the community had started flocking to ol’ Five. A litter that month out of Jet V and GRNITECH ‘PR’ Sioux Valley Fly II produced 3 titled hounds out of a 10-pup litter. Those 3 were GRNITECH ‘PR’ Beck’s Talk 2 Em Gus, NITECH ‘PR’ Setty’s Tree Singing Chief, and GRCH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Sioux Valley Fly III. The same cross was made again in December of 1991. 4 of those 10 pups finished out this time including, NITECH ‘PR’ Northern Blue Ivy, NITECH ‘PR’ Smileys Blue Flo, CH NITECH ‘PR’ Gibson’s Blue Jet Turbo, and NITECH ‘PR’ Thompson’s Roll N Thunder. 6 of Fly II’s 8 litters were out of Jet V and in addition to the 7 dogs we had mentioned above, they also produced, GRCH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Northern Blue Cricket, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Mead’s Sioux Valley Woody, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Hoosier CC Bubba, and NITECH ‘PR’ Mead’s Blue Honey.

Speaking of repeat litter success, in June of 1991 ‘PR’ Northern Blue Crystal dropped another top litter out of Jet V. This time 3 of the 7 pups titled out including, NITECH ‘PR’ Northern Blue Joker I, NITECH ‘PR’ Northern Blue Sampson, and NITECH ‘PR’ Spencer’s Northern Blue Lady. Jet V and Crystal teamed up to produce 49 puppies out of 7 litters, with 12 of them titling out. Apart from the 6 I’ve mentioned, they also produced GRCH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Boo’s Blue Northern Bonnie Jet, GRCH NITECH ‘PR’ Boo’s Blue Northern Blue Jed, CH NITECH ‘PR’ Sanderfords Stone Cold Banker, NITECH CH ‘PR’ Dubel’s Rock Oak Bud, NITECH ‘PR’ Hills Northern Blue Jet Buddy, and NITECH ‘PR’ Texas Creek Corvette.

In April of 1994, a new Sioux Valley female, this time CH ‘PR’ Sioux Valley Sue, was bred to Jet V and dropped a 10-pup litter that saw 4 pups title out. Those were CH ‘PR’ Johnsons Northern Blue Bandit, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Southern Oaks Jets Blue Ghost, NITECH ‘PR’ Timms’ Blue Suzie, and NITECH ‘PR’ Gibson’s Blue Jet Abby. And although he had loads of top litters and pups, I’m going to end this article highlighting the litter that produced the next in line for Ed. In September of 1995, ‘PR’ White’s Blue Sue dropped a litter of 9 pups out of Jet V. 2 pups titled in this litter including NITECH ‘PR’ Moss Confederate Blue Sadie, and Ed’s next big stud dog, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Mead’s Super Jet 6.
