CH GRNITECH 'PR' KY River Batman - Stud Dog Thursday

So far in this weekly article (minus the week where the storm knocked the power and servers out), we have highlighted 8 hounds. The birthdate of all 8 of those hounds fall somewhere between 1980 and 1991. This week’s hound is going to be a bit of an outlier in that aspect, but what he has accomplished in the late 2000s and 2010s has been very impressive. This week’s hound is CH GRNITECH ‘PR’ KY River Batman. He currently sits atop of the Historical Reproducers list, and 2nd overall in the Black and Tan breed in number of titled pups produced, and sits 5th overall in number of pups produced.

Batman is a 2008 model Black and Tan male. He was born from a well-known litter out of 2 hounds that are still on the Historical Reproducers List to this day, Nute and Chigger. And of that 6-pup litter, 5 of the 6 titled out, including Batman, NITECH ‘PR’ Horns Midnight Southern Rage, GRCH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Crocketts Blk Cozar, GRNITECH ‘PR’ KY River Stick Tight, and NITECH ‘PR’ KY River Dixie. That litter alone produced upwards of 1,241 pups with 115 hunt titled dogs. And a lot of those hounds still have pups out there competing today so we will see those numbers grow.

Batman’s first litter hit the ground shortly after his 2nd birthday in December of 2010, out of ‘PR’ Hiatt’s Moonlight Kate. His legacy started quick with 3 of the 5 pups out of that first litter titling out, including GRCH GRNITECH(2) ‘PR’ KY River Hobie, NITECH ‘PR’ Cornett’s Lil Ace, and NITECH ‘PR’ KY River Lady Gaga. Females started coming more frequently and he had 33 litters hit the ground in 2011-2012 including a litter out of GRNITECH ‘PR’ Moonshine Maggie born in May of 2012 where 5 of the 8 pups titled out. Those dogs were GRCH(2) ‘PR’ Little Black Walnut Bibleman, FCH GRNITECH GRWCH GRCH ‘PR’ Raw Dawgs Batmans Joker, NITECH CH ‘PR’ Clure’s Pounding Piston, GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Sugar Creek Spooky, and NITECH ‘PR’ Vances’ Bat Girl.

In May of 2013, a familiar female, ‘PR’ Hiatt’s Moonlight Kate was bred to Batman for the 2nd of 4 times. This particular cross had 5 pups hit the ground with 4 of them titling out. Those 4 were NITECH ‘PR’ Full Moon Doc, NITECH ‘PR’ KY River Rock N Roll, NITECH ‘PR’ KY River Poison Ivy, and NITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Barnes Midnight Bella. Kate was bred 4 times in her life, all to Batman. Together they produced 22 pups with 12 achieving at least a NITECH title. The remaining ones we have yet to mention are GRCH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Barnes Midnight Rises HTX, GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Barron’s Loud Malf Ralf, NITECH ‘PR’ Clear Creek Rip, GRCH NITECH ‘PR’ 6 Gun Ghost of Batman, and GRNITECH ‘PR’ Barrons Savage Sam.

Though Batman threw a lot of top pups over the years, it was coincidental that three of his most impactful crosses were made in 3 consecutive Junes, in 2013, 2014, and 2015. The first, in June of 2013, Batman was bred to GRNITECH ‘PR’ Bad to the Bones Super Fly. 3 pups, GRNITECH ‘PR’ KY River Big Time Black Jack, GRNITECH(2) ‘PR’ KY River Super Sting, and GRNITECH(2) ‘PR’ KY River Superman, all titled out of that 6 pup litter. Almost 1 year later, in June of 2014, Batman produced a litter out of NITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Gilman’s Black Rose. 6 of the 8 pups out of that litter achieved a title including, GRCH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Hill’s Black Earl, CCH FCH GRNITECH(2) GRCH ‘PR’ Gilman’s KY Rebel, FCH CH ‘PR’ Gilman’s KY Slick Willie, CH ‘PR’ Batman’s Lady Shiva, GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Woods Diamond W Rose, and CCH GRFCH GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Gilman’s KY Moonshine. Then almost 1 year to the day later, in June of 2015, David Gilman had another female drop a litter of pups out of Batman and his NITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Gilman’s Ladybell’s Legacy female. All 3 pups out of that litter titled out; NITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Gilman’s Late Nite Gambler, GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Gilman’s Big Bad Hoss, and FCH NITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Gilman’s Late Nite Gypsy. As of this writing, Rebel sits atop the Current Reproducers List, and Superman, Super Sting and several others are starting to make their mark in the breeding pen.

Just a month later a Batman litter dropped out of NITECH ‘PR’ Scaggs Black Bea that saw 4 of the 8 pups title out. Those 4 were CH ‘PR’ Contary Creek – Zman, CH NITECH ‘PR’ Elk Creek Batman’s Joker, GRNITECH(3) ‘PR’ KY River Nitro, and GRNITECH ‘PR’ Cane Creek Blk Bee. Although I could go on for another couple pages mentioning all the notable hounds out of Batman, I do have to start to wind this thing down. And though I am about to post Batman’s reproduction numbers, they are far from complete. Batman is still having litters to this day so we can expect his legacy to continue to grow as his numbers do.

I’ve enjoyed these historical articles. It would be interesting to see how these historical stud dogs would compare ability wise to the present day stud dogs being advertised. The good and the bad. I know that s not the purpose of this series so I’ll refrain from making any comments that would detract from your intent and the extensive research you’ve done. Thanks for doing this.

Though I no longer have any coonhounds I still go with my best friend on occasion. I had the good fortune of selling him a year old female Bluetick in 1984 that started a friendship that has kept us enjoying hunts together with our beagles and his coon hounds for nearly 40 years.
