Massive Russian hack attack threatens national security and fuels disinformation warfare
The chilling Russian cyber breach endangers our safety and democracy. Enough with wrist slaps and naive attempts at 'resets.' We need decisive action.
CINDY L. OTIS | OPINION CONTRIBUTOR | 13 hours ago

Under President Vladimir Putin, Russia has been a menace on the world stage. And our country remains a top Kremlin target.

It has been roughly a week since we first learned of the unprecedented cyber breach against the U.S. government by attacking a software known as SolarWinds. There is still a lot we do not know about the attack that the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency says has been ongoing as early as March, but all signs point to Russia as the culprit.

Without having all the details, we can easily imagine what sensitive intelligence and data the Kremlin was able to gain via its at least nine months of unfettered access based on the ever-expanding list of victims. As of Friday, that list included the departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Energy, Homeland Security, State and Treasury, and the National Institutes of Health.

Malicious strategy to undermine US
In a critical alert issued Thursday, CISA painted an equally bleak picture about the national security implications of the breach carried out by an actor it called “patient, well-resourced, and focused.” The agency said the attack was sophisticated, hard to detect and will be “highly complex and challenging” to undo, suggesting we will be feeling the effects of this operation for years to come.

Western governments have taken turns every few years pushing for a new and very much one-sided “Russian reset.” The goal has been to encourage better behavior by the Kremlin, but these "resets" have served as little more than diplomatic and ultimately naive olive branches that governments eventually abandon.

Consequently, Russia continues to push the envelope and will do so until we take decisive action. A mere slap on the wrist won’t cut it anymore. President-elect Joe Biden issued a statement saying as much, though he did not mention Russia. He promised that his administration would have a strong response to these malicious attacks on our country.

Russian President Vladimir Putin speaks via video call during his annual year-end news conference in Moscow on Dec. 17, 2020.

ALEXANDER ZEMLIANICHENKO, AP
We can expect the Kremlin will use its findings from the breach and access to better position itself globally and to threaten our national security. We also know that Russian intelligence is adept at deploying hack-and-leak operations. That was never more clear than when Russia hacked Democratic National Committee servers and leaked emails ahead of the 2016 election in an operation to target voters and undermine confidence in the election.

Biden challenge: Fix voting and the Electoral College to head off a 2024 crisis

A similar strategy likely will play out in the coming years with the Kremlin selectively deploying information to continue its strategy of undermining our democracy. After all, the latest breach comes on the heels of a divisive presidential election in which more than a third of the U.S. population is convinced there was widespread voter fraud, despite a complete lack of evidence. Disinformation and misinformation around the election and its results ran rampant online, though largely domestically generated, shaking our country’s collective faith in our voting systems.

Already, we are living in a tinderbox of false information that does not need any more fuel. That’s precisely what this breach is.

Breeding ground of disinformation
It is a breeding ground for the quickly evolving world of information warfare. The American people have been fed a steady diet of false information for so long that they have become the main spreaders of this information, just looking for the right salacious conspiracy theory or claim that fits their bias.

We are also likely to see other nefarious online actors attempting to capitalize on this moment to peddle unverified information around the breach and deploy new conspiracy theories that exploit very real security concerns felt by the American people. And the sad part is, our adversaries don’t even have to do the heavy lifting. We’ve already shown that we’ll spread disinformation and misinformation for them.

Worst president?: How do Trump's extraordinary betrayals stand up against history?

More than that, we continue to create avenues for destructive disinformation campaigns that fail to address the many societal and technical issues created by the first generation of social networks. In the drive toward innovation, we can’t turn a blind eye to these problems, for they are what allow dangerous false information to take root and spread rapidly. We must focus less on gaining clicks for misleading headlines and more on protecting the public square.

We need to be prepared for an intense wave of false information that will use this breach to further increase the ambiguity of this cybersecurity incident. While we wait for more information around the breach, look to trusted sources for updates. Do not spread unverified information.

The threat posed by disinformation will not go away on its own. Need evidence? Look to the lies being spread about voter fraud or the COVID-19 vaccine. War has been declared on the truth. Public and private entities must join together to fight for it.

Trump Downplays Huge Hack Tied to Russia, Suggests China

President also implies voting-machine attack without evidence
Trump contradicts Pompeo, Rubio who tied hack to Moscow
President Donald Trump downplayed the severity of a massive cyber-attack on the U.S. government and suggested China may have been responsible -- even as other U.S. officials are convinced Russia was the perpetrator.

In doing so Saturday on Twitter, the president contradicted assessments from senior officials within his own administration who’ve blamed Moscow for the intrusion of at least half a dozen federal agencies -- including comments Friday night from Secretary of State Michael Pompeo.

Marco Rubio of Florida, acting chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, rejected Trump’s conclusion, calling the hack “the gravest cyber intrusion in our history,” and one conducted by “Russian intelligence.”

WASHINGTON — President Trump’s dismissive characterization of a massive cyberattack targeting multiple U.S. agencies drew pushback Sunday from lawmakers, cybersecurity experts and the incoming Biden administration amid growing questions over the president’s refusal to acknowledge that Russia was likely behind the intrusions.
A month before President-elect Joe Biden takes office, Trump remains preoccupied with his falsehood-filled campaign to overturn the results of November’s election, and the president gave no indication that the United States would seek to punish those responsible for an unprecedented breach whose full scope was still being assessed.

“Russia acted with impunity,” Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said on NBC’S “Meet the Press.” Romney, one of only a handful of congressional Republicans to criticize Trump’s conduct regarding the election, said that “we’ve come to recognize that the president has a blind spot when it comes to Russia.”

February 21

Karl Marx publishes Communist Manifesto

On February 21, 1848,_The Communist Manifesto,_written by_Karl Marx_with the assistance of Friedrich Engels, is published in London by a group of German-born revolutionary socialists known as the Communist League. The political pamphlet–arguably the most influential in history–proclaimed that “the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles” and that the inevitable victory of the proletariat, or working class, would put an end to class society forever. Originally published in German as_Manifest der Kommunistischen Partei_(“Manifesto of the Communist Party”), the work had little immediate impact. Its ideas, however, reverberated with increasing force into the 20th century, and by 1950 nearly half the world’s population lived under

READ MORE:_How Are Socialism and Communism Different?

Karl Marx was born in Trier, Prussia, in 1818–the son of a Jewish lawyer who converted to Lutheranism. He studied law and philosophy at the universities of Berlin and Jena and initially was a follower of G.W.F. Hegel, the 19th-century German philosopher who sought a dialectical and all-embracing system of philosophy. In 1842, Marx became editor of the_Rheinische Zeitung,_a liberal democratic newspaper in Cologne. The newspaper grew considerably under his guidance, but in 1843 the Prussian authorities shut it down for being too outspoken. That year, Marx moved to Paris to co-edit a new political review.

Paris was at the time a center for socialist thought, and Marx adopted the more extreme form of socialism known as communism, which called for a revolution by the working class that would tear down the capitalist world. In Paris, Marx befriended Friedrich Engels, a fellow Prussian who shared his views and was to become a lifelong collaborator. In 1845, Marx was expelled from France and settled in Brussels, where he renounced his Prussian nationality and was joined by Engels.

During the next two years, Marx and Engels developed their philosophy of communism and became the intellectual leaders of the working-class movement. In 1847, the League of the Just, a secret society made up of revolutionary German workers living in London, asked Marx to join their organization. Marx obliged and with Engels renamed the group the Communist League and planned to unite it with other German worker committees across Europe. The pair were commissioned to draw up a manifesto summarizing the doctrines of the League.

Back in Brussels, Marx wrote_The Communist Manifesto_in January 1848, using as a model a tract Engels wrote for the League in 1847. In early February, Marx sent the work to London, and the League immediately adopted it as their manifesto. Many of the ideas in_The Communist Manifesto_were not new, but Marx had achieved a powerful synthesis of disparate ideas through his materialistic conception of history. The_Manifesto_opens with the dramatic words, “A spectre is haunting Europe–the spectre of communism,” and ends by declaring: “The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win. Workers of the world, unite!”

In_The Communist Manifesto,_Marx predicted imminent revolution in Europe. The pamphlet had hardly cooled after coming off the presses in London when revolution broke out in France on February 22 over the banning of political meetings held by socialists and other opposition groups. Isolated riots led to popular revolt, and on February 24 King Louis-Philippe was forced to abdicate. The revolution spread like brushfire across continental Europe. Marx was in Paris on the invitation of the provincial government when the Belgian government, fearful that the revolutionary tide would soon engulf Belgium, banished him. Later that year, he went to the Rhineland, where he agitated for armed revolt.

The bourgeoisie of Europe soon crushed the Revolution of 1848, and Marx would have to wait longer for his revolution. He went to London to live and continued to write with Engels as they further organized the international communist movement. In 1864, Marx helped found the International Workingmen’s Association–known as the First International–and in 1867 published the first volume of his monumental_Das Kapital–the foundation work of communist theory. By his death in 1883, communism had become a movement to be reckoned with in Europe. Thirty-four years later, in 1917,_Vladimir Lenin, a Marxist, led the world’s first successful communist_revolution in Russia.

The Cloward-Piven Strategy: Orchestrating A Crisis So Government Can “Solve” It

Last Fall, Conduit for Action published an article titled “Are you the victim of Rules for Radicals?” to highlight the political tactics of those seeking to diminish liberty. At the end of the article there was a tease for a future breakdown of The Cloward-Piven Strategy. This is that article.

The end goal of the Cloward-Piven strategy is the creation of a political crisis leading to a guaranteed annual income.[1]_Essentially, the Cloward-Piven strategy would lead to the complete control of citizens through Socialism/Communism.

As a background, Frances Fox Piven is a professor of political science and sociology at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.[2]_The late Richard Cloward was an sociologist and liberal activist, and Piven’s spouse.[3]

Their “strategy” to implement political crisis to achieve a guaranteed annual income was published in the May 2, 1966 of The Nation, a leading liberal political and cultural magazine. In this publication, their_main goal to achieve the crisis was to have “a massive drive to recruit the poor onto the welfare rolls.”_A federal program to administer these large welfare programs would be needed. This is because if it is administered locally, there would be lower enrollment because “the poor are most visible and proximate in the local community; antagonism toward them has always, therefore, been more intense locally than at the federal level.”

This means that_if there was more oversight at the local level it would not allow the welfare rolls to increase to the levels needed to cause a financial crisis. Therefore, their_solution was to move programs to Washington D.C. where people are not as aware of the costs and oversight of the programs.

The strategy also rejected that a person could overcome poverty through any “institution of private enterprise”, signaling that hard work, education, and personal responsibility are not a solution to poverty. Their only solution is a “federal program of income redistribution” to “elevate the poor en- masse from poverty.”

The solution of a guaranteed income to end poverty also must be free from any sort of conditions, like work requirements._They say, “conditional benefits result in violations of civil liberties throughout the nation, and in a pervasive oppression of the poor.” So, according to them, not only are people entitled to other people’s money, there can be no conditions on that. Under this logic,_they are entitled to the coercive taking of others money because they exist.Cloward and Piven also stress the importance of marketing these benefits to the masses.

The Cloward-Piven strategy also stresses that any removal of benefits should require stringent legal review. The benefits should require administrative hearings with additional court hearings to place barriers to the removal of benefits once received._They hypothesized that lawyers could “be recruited on a voluntary basis, especially under the banner of a movement to end poverty by a strategy of asserting legal rights.” Enter the ACLU.

The liberal strategy calls for a “climate of militancy” that would overcome attitudes of being on welfare. They state that “as the crisis develops, it will be important to use the mass media to inform the broader liberal community about the inefficiencies and injustices of welfare.” The liberal infestation of mainstream media has occurred.

Their ideal political movement would be “cadres of aggressive organizers . . . from the civil rights movement and the churches, from militant low-income organizations like those formed by Saul Alinksy and other groups on the Left.”

Their plan was also ahead of the curve on implementing generational welfare dependency because they highlight that “once eligibility for basic food and rent grants is established, the dram on local resources persists indefinitely.” Their target demographic was “a coalition between poor whites and poor Negroes.”

Their “ultimate aim of this strategy is a new program for direct income distribution”, also known throughout history as Socialism/Communism which has led to the death, despair, and depravity of hundreds of millions.

The four steps of the Cloward-Piven Strategy:

Overload and Break the Welfare SystemHave Chaos EnsueTake Control in the ChaosImplement Socialism and Communism through Government Force

As Milton Friedman famously said,_“there is nothing so permanent as a temporary government program.”_This is because government sets out to “fix” a problem with a new program. However, that program never seems to go away. Does this mean government never fixes a problem, or that government will never shrink unless forced to do so by receiving less money?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Best Ever...lol

Please stay on track boys. I know it is hard for a Trump supporter to do that but give it a try.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Saturday downplayed the hacking campaign that has torn through U.S. government agencies and businesses that experts believe is the work of Russian intelligence, deflecting blame away from Russia and suggesting Chinese involvement while contradicting top officials in his own administration.

Trump's comments caught the White House off guard as they attempted to square the president's comments with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s remarks a day earlier saying that Russia was "pretty clearly" behind the hack, according to two officials with knowledge of the situation.
