Just curious as to how many people on here would still coonhunt if there was no such thing as a competition hunt? I would.

I know I'm in the minority because I walk hunt, like closer hunting dogs, prefer silent dogs and clean every coon that I catch for the meat.

I don't deer hunt, turkey hunt, fish or play golf....I COON HUNT! I started hunting with my father and have been hunting my own dogs for over 40 years. I do enjoy coming on here and reading the posts, even the ones about Comp hunting. I do belong to the closest club to me and try to make it to all of the meetings and hunts....I enjoy the company of other coonhunters.

The award that I like to get doesn't involve winning money or a trophy. The award that I like to receive is that feeling you get when a pup that was born on your place trees it's first coon. That's what I do this for!

I will coon hunt till I am no longer able.. It's my peace, where I can get my mind right. I comp hunt as well, but I hunt for the love of the hound. Several nights a week and year round. I deal with people all day and would much prefer to just deal with my hounds. My dad and granddad weren't coonhunters but something down inside me had the yearning for the sound of a hound. Bought my first hound at 11 years old, I'm 46 now and have never been without a hound since. My kids all have taken after my tradition though and are all avid hound hunters. 1 son and 3 daughters all grown and all like to chase a hound.. I was blessed beyond measure.

I coon hunted over 20 yrs before I ever heard of a nite hunt.SO reckon I will until I can't. If you like the hunts, hope you get too go forever. NO coon eater here.

coonhunted for over close to 60 yrs. started with grandpa back in 60s ! coonhunt until I cant go. competition hunts end tomorrow I would still be coonhunting next night. way of life for me always was always will be.

I would hunt without comp hunt. However I go to hunts because my dog deserve to show what he has. Plus usuly 90% of the time I meet great guys and have fun just like pleasure hunting you just call your dog.

For me pleasure hunting has always been better than competition. Had plenty of stress at work. Always hunted to relax.

I hunt for the pleasure of hunting with the hounds. I enjoy some comp hunts once in a while but my hearing is not sharp enough anymore to do the dogs justice in the hunts. Pleasure hunting l dont have to worry about calling my dog. Just listen and enjoy! Been running hounds since l was 11 years old so going on 50 years now with the hounds.

Coon hunting is a way of life for me i thank god every day for still being able to follow a hound.i love to see a young dog do what it is bred to do I hunt pretty much the same line of hounds for years and it amazes me how they all start about the same and have the same traits laid back early starting dogs that have a coon in their tree.

I would walk from the house, use a 2 cell flashlight, and lead my dog with a grass string to go coon hunting if I had too.

Training dogs is not so much about quantity, it's more about timing, and the right situations...After that it's up to the dog....A hunting dog is born...
