Using stored semen?

I’m planning to use some semen I’ve had stored for a long time, and have several questions about the registration process.
1. The sire has been dead for years, and so has the owner. I assume I put myself as the owner on the litter application and indicate that stored semen was used, but how do I find the sire’s UKC #?
2. How does the DNA work? How do I determine if he even has a DNA profile on file? Do I DNA the semen?
3. I intend to SS the litter, is the process similar in the other registry? Will I need separate DNA for each registry?

I know the best bet is to call and speak to someone @ UKC, but the last couple times I tried I didn’t get anywhere. Thanks in advance!

You will have to contact UKC. They will know if sire has been DNA'd. If not then vet will have to swab semen for DNA. The same goes for PKC. Yes you list yourself as "owner" of semen. If sire has not been DNA'd get ready to spend some money. You will have to pay the sire up in UKC Performance Program also. You will need to do all of this at time of breeding or it will take forever to get pup papers. Good luck.

If you get a nice litter of pups, then it is worth it. But you can go to all of that trouble, spend all of that money and not get any pups. With old stored semen, it is a big gamble. I have had it work and not work.
