Texas Chain Law
I have never posted on here and usually only occasionally read the forum to learn from all the good folk’s conversations. However, I wanted to be sure all Texas houndsmen were aware of the new law that our Governor Abbott has signed into law, State Bill 5 will make it illegal to have dogs staked out on a chain. The new law will go into effect January 1. I was shocked when I learned the Governor had signed this into law. He had initially vetoed the bill but passed it when it came back for a second vote. Some of you may not agree with staking a hound on a chain, but when done properly and the hounds are cared for properly it is at least as good as keeping them in kennel. There is not much we can do now, but I would encourage any Texas houndsmen to call the governors office let him know he has lost a vote. Also, call your State Representatives, see how they voted and let them know what you think. There are a lot more house dog owners than hound owners in Texas, but we are going to have to start paying attention to this type of legislation (myself included) or who knows what will be outlawed next.
