Yes Allen it was. These pups were out of two Hall of Fame hounds but you and I know they have to find their way to the right hunters to reach their potential. Back in the 80's how could you beat guys like Terry Hayes, H.A. Todd, Curtis Elburn and Harold Hoffmeister! Lol..

It's hard to argue with the breeding success of Ramblin Red Ace. I remember an article where I believe Travis Thomas or Ether Smith said I believe you could have bred Ace to a poodle and produced tree dogs. He definitely kept this breed going in the 70s. There were too many big name stud dogs that produced 1000s of pups and very few made anything. Ace had the highest reproducing percentage of any dog in that era including Timber Jack. He was the only stud that stood in the way of TJ being number 1. Timber Chopper passed this ability to reproduce to both of these dogs.

I believe that today there are females like the Moonlight Kate female with so much concentrated TC genetics that they can dominate the traits of a litter. We are seeing that with Shane Maxey's Breanna female. Kate had TC 22 times so Breanna is stacked with this winning blood being a half sister / brother cross from Kate. Breanna has TC about 50 times. Breeding her to Aftershock added another TC 30x. The Cat female we are hunting now is from this cross. That's the reason females like Kate, Pepper Ann , and Breanna are on the Reproducers list. These females are genetic TC popcorn poppers.

So TJ produced 3: Girl, Max and Page? Ace produced 3: Vadar, Red Hot and Ky Kate? Any more studs who have produced 3 or more American or National Redbone Days Overall Champions or Opposite Sex Champions?

I can't believe that y'all are talking about Timber Jack and Rambling Red Ace in the same thread as Montana Red Mountain Ranger. Will we still be talking about Ranger and his offspring 30 yrs from now?

TJ offspring won 7 Overall or Opp Sex. Champions between 4 dogs.
Ace produced at least 4 and I think more. Pretty sure Ralph won Redbone Days in 1988.

Might want to check the Razor Red crowd for his offspring.

I wasn't counting US or Southern Redbone Days. I was only looking at the two main ones, American and National. But I do find it really amazing that we are talking about and comparing Ranger's offspring to Timber Jack and Ace's offspring.

Kelly, it looks like you need to start a thread to see which mommas produced the most Champions. But then someone will probably just say it was because of the momma's Sire. But you could also argue that it was because of the Sire's momma. I wonder how much of Ace's success had to do with Ramblin Red Kate? Does anyone know what Ranger's momma produced? I don't know for sure but I think that all 4 of Ranger's Champion offspring came from 4 different mommas.

So true Richard. I'm not about to say that the success of a litter has to do with the mom or the dad. It's really both. But a concentrated well bred female will make a big difference in any cross. Burning Ben produced 8 GrNtCh and 5 of those came from Timber Jack daughters that were heavily line bred on TC. There really are some exceptional crosses that just worked like Ace X Kate and TJ X Jessie and many others. Jessie produced well on two heavily line bred TC males , TJ and Ben. When she was outcrossed she didn't produce. Now Moonlight Kate is a different type female. She was bred so tight and concentrated on TC that she was going to throw this trait in every litter she produced. It's all about the concentration of reproducing genes. TJ, Ben, Ace all were heavily concentrated TC males. Razor Red is another heavily concentrated Ace / TC bred dog and the reason he leads the Reproducers list. Find me a female that is heavily concentrated in TC blood and I'll show you a female that is capable of producing big time winners. Kate, Ky Kate, Bree, Trip, Pistol, Cat and littermates are some that I know of right now.

How much Timber Chopper does Ranger have. "In my opinion" most guys today only look back 3 or 4 generations and don't really care how much concentrated Ace, TC or TJ blood a dog has in their pedigree. They are looking for Ranger, T-Top, Kate, Pepper, Outlaw or Rusty Red etc.

I am pretty particular when I breed a female they have to perform in hunting and not a brood female, then I start studying pedigrees to vauleate the potential of the cross being made what would this maybe produce or increase the hunt, voice, speed and drive in the pups that they will produce with that cross,i am starting to look for a sire on one of my females now don't no when I am going to breed her yet

No wonder I am so confused. That Moore guy has sure owned and started a bunch of nice dogs.

Jared, where in the world did you find that picture. That was when Ranger beat out a bunch of spotted dogs to win Gr Nt Ch at Walker Days of all places.

I am going to have to call UKC and get a 15 gen pedigree to see how many times Timber Chopper shows up in Wendy's pedigree. I have just been counting Rabble and Sally.

George, when I decided to breed Wendy this last time I didn't look at any pedigrees. I just picked a Sire that I liked and whose offspring seemed to be doing pretty good. I figured that Wendy would do the rest.

I also knew that Moore guy had picked Ranger for all of his pups and that Mr Marshall had picked Ranger to breed Kate to for her last litter. That Hyde guy also bred his nice females to Ranger and did pretty well. Now those guys know a lot more about this than I do so how could I go wrong? I have already told y'all what a copycat I am. I just jumped on the bandwagon when I got the chance.

Yeah, I can only personally vouch for 7 generations. Beyond that, I don't really know. But I don't think that they had any DNA records back then.

Oh my goodness, so 3 of Ranger's Champions have come from Sawblade females? And they were all owned/started by Mr Doug Moore? I wonder if I could get him to start one of my Ranger X Wendy pups?

Oh my goodness, it hasn't been 30 yrs but we are still talking about Ranger's offspring. Wade, one of his pups placed on Friday night at American Days last week. There may still be a couple of Ranger Overall Champions to come. Will there be a #5 or #6? Or how many UKC World Champion Redbones will he produce?

Ranger

Ranger & his Daddy was raised and trained in one of the toughest places to coon hunt there is. Straight up and down clear cut down Timber briar thickets mine breaks and big snakes south eastern Ky. In fact the guy that trained Ranger has just got his young male outta Woody a snake shot. I didn’t even know there was such a thing.

Rick,

I didn’t see that cross advertised, if that’s the case that’s one heck of well bred pup. Cherry Bomb has done her fair share of winning, I’d love to possibly hunt with that dog and possibly breed to him. Shane sure has done a good job with Cherry Bomb, and ranger has sired some of the biggest winning UKC world hunt redbones in recent years.

Natl Days

My older sister is really sick and I hate to leave and something happen it’s pancreatic cancer. I just don’t feel right taking off with her sick and in such bad shape. I told Doug if I don’t get on the ball and get Timber back in the game I’m going to have to let someone else do it. He’s too nice of a dog to sit. Timber is such a good tempered dog and is accurate as can be. He deserves to be finished out and Ran in the hunts. How many breedings did you get off Justin. I called him and he said you beat me to them lol. Those should be some nice pups. When does she come in or have you made the cross yet???
