Any Ideas?

Any ideas on how to correct a dog that keeps backtracking to the den?

Lots of variables involved in answering your question, but I'd be curious how you arrived at the conclusion that your dog was backtracking to a den?
Dogs can be taught about anything, and it's amazing what some good trainers are capable of. But trailing issues are (in my opinion) largely genetic, and and you can't fix genetics. They were fixed about 63 days before your dog was born...

Infromation

Need to post more information. Has rut season in your area started. Tracking away then tracking back? Did dog just start doing it? If dog just started you mite not have a problem. Do you know how many boars have been to and from that den?
Just my thoughts that come to mind.

The dog has always been pretty accurate, but here lately he seems to be going the wrong way..
Turned loose 3 times last night, first time was a den, second time he hit a track red hot but the farther he got the colder he started trailing and got much slower, third time he done the exact same thing and I know for sure he was going the wrong way that time because i found the coon tracks going the opposite way. Been happening alot here in the past few weeks.

And yes rut season has started, but this has never been a problem before. He would sometimes hit a hot track and go backwards a short distance but would correct himself and usually have the coon.
