Grand 16 Final Cast Play by Play

Four hounds remain in the Grand 16 to decide the National Grand Nite Champion and all the marbles at the 60th running of Autumn Oaks.

The 90-minute contest includes:

Backwoods Shack, a six-year old TW male, owned by Cheyenne Cummings of Seneca, Missouri, handled by Dalton Cummings

Main Street Wild Crow, a four-year old ENG male, owned by Asa Briggs and Shane Cannon of Morley, MI handled by Asa Briggs

King Hootie, a four-year old TW male, owned and handled by Chris Merritt of Whitesburg, GA

Flamin Red Tuck, a two-year old RED male, owned by Johnny Coffman of Corryton, TN handled by Mike Young

The cast is being guided by Dusty Feister, judged by Tyler Pettit, and tagging along to report the action is Trevor Wade.

In the early 90-minute round:

Shack posted a first and first with a coon to win his cast with 225+.

Crow scored on two coons to advance with a score of 375+.

Hootie treed a coons to win his cast with a score of 150+.

Tuck treed two coons and took a 75 hit along the way, but came out on top with a score of 200+.

The cast left the Wayne County Fairgrounds shortly after 1:00am and will be hunting in the Milton area merely 20 or 30 minutes away. Stay tuned for the first report from the field!

* First report! The cast has arrived and getting the hounds unloaded.

Start your clock, the dogs are collared and............ they're off!

CROW STRUCK! (100), Tuck 75.

Shack puts in for 50. They are directly in front of the cast, reported as a hot track right out of the gate!

Put Hootie on the card for 25.

*BOOM! Shack 125, Hootie 75, and Crow 50, bang, bang, bang.

* Cast is walking that way.

* Tuck is movin' on out.

* 5 is up. Pettit leads them into the tree, and handlers are getting the three leashed up.

*Dalton say's everyone can shine with a dim light.

* Bingo! Plus 'em up. Matter of seconds.

* Handlers hustling to get the three off the tree to get them back in the dark.

* There's Tuck, off in the distance....... cut 'em!

SCORES:
Shack - 175+
Crow - 150+
Hootie - 100+
Tuck - 75 strike pending

* Tuck hushed..... 8 is running.

* Shack strikes left-handed (50), and breaks the 8 on Tuck.

* There's Tuck again, veering off to the right, while Shack continues on off to the left.

* Hootie struck back in for 25, left handled but not as deep as Shack.

* A little tougher going right now, according to Trevor. 8 has been put on and off a couple times now.

* Crow found him one to run, off in front of the cast a little ways. All four seem to be working their own tracks right now.

* Shack's been quite for a bit.

*There's Shack again...... off deeper to the left. The guide says in a ravine over there. Had Dalton on the edge of his seat for minute.

* The cast has decided to move and try to position themselves better for all involved.

* Crow is hittin'...... and stops the cast.

*YUP! Crow is hooked up and Asa calls him for 125.

*Action off to the left..... Tree Shack for 125 off a good piece.

* Trevor says, they'll be doing some walking to get these two scored. Hang on....

* Tyler sent the scorekeeper to handle Shack, while the rest of the crew continues on to Crow.

* Walking down the edge of a cornfield and nearing Crow now.

* Trees are both dead, BTW....

* Cast has arrived at Crows tree, to find he has company (Hootie). Dogs are handled.

* Shining...........approximately 40 minutes remaining in the hunt.

*Big old tree, lotsa leaves, is the report.

* Two minutes gone on the tree and squallers are out now.

* Still nutin'.... Getting more serious with the game calls.

* High beams are flipped on....

*Asa is satisfied.... Judge circles this one. Circle strike and tree for Crow. Circle strike for crow. Leading the two away from the tree.

*Option to recast? "Yes sir! Crow and Hottie are off again! Cast will have another good walk to Shack. Hang on.

*Hootie struck in again for 25. Now behind the cast,a s they continue on towards Shack.

*Crow back in for 25, as well, in the same area as Hootie. Wait..... Tree Crow for 125!

* Hootie likes the tree and takes 75 with Crow.

Tuck hasn't been heard from in a good while now. GPS says he's 3/4 mile from them right now.

Cast continues towards Shack.

SCORES:
Shack - 175+ (50 Strike, 125 tree pending)
Crow - 150+ (25 strike, 125 tree pending)
Hootie - 100+ (25 strike, 75 tree pending)
Tuck - 75 strike pending

* Still walkin'............. 28 minutes left in the hunt.

* Road beds and corn rows. Definitely not in Tennessee anymore, says Trevor.

* Finally.......they have arrived... Shack is being handled. 20 minutes left.

* Shining........

* Got 'em! Plus up Shack, another 175 on this one.

* The cast is getting their bearings together...... "a good 3/4 mile from Crow and Hootie" they have figured. "Let's go, I'm keeping Shack on the leash" says Dalton.
13 minutes remains in the 60th running of Autumn Oaks, for the Grand Nite Division.

SCORES:
Shack - 350+
Crow - 150+ (25 strike, 125 tree pending)
Hootie - 100+ (25 strike, 75 tree pending)
Tuck - 75 strike pending (MIA)

*Shack will be the National Grand Nite Champion, in.......5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Hunts over.

*Update....... both Crow and Hootie ended up with their tree points being minused. That is known. Hang on for details.

*Update....... both Crow and Hootie ended up with their tree points being minused. That is known. Hang on for details.

*Ok, Asa, Chris, and the scorekeeper did not go to Shack's tree. Instead, they went back to handle Crow and Hootie and were to wait there for the judge. When the judge, Dalton and Trevor arrived, they learned that Crow and Hootie had actually moved and were minued their tree points. Now they can also hear Tuck treeing through the country but all that's left is to now delete his strike points and go fetch him up.

Final Scores:
SCORES:
Shack - 350+ CW
Crow - 25+
Hootie - 25+
Tuck - 0

Good hunt and a good final cast. Congrats to Dalton and Cheyenne Cummings with their National Champion Redneck Backwoods Shack!
