Proposed Changes To UKC Pointing Dog Rules

There have been a few periodic updates over the last ten years to the original version of the UKC Pointing Dog Field Trial Rules. This proposed version has been a work in progress that comes at a time when an update and the subsequent printing of new rulebooks is very much necessary. It is our sincere hope that upon reading through this summary of changes you will see an underlying theme of “quality as opposed to quantity.” With any new program some leeway must be given in an effort to get that program up and running. As time progresses, changes are appropriate to advance the integrity of a program. In the opinion of many, this is an outstanding venue in which to showcase the field ability of pointing dogs. A thoughtful critique and eventual implementation of proposed rule changes will serve to take this great program to the next level.

The intent of the summary is to provide the reader with a non-detailed look at a short list of rules undergoing the most change. These are areas that you will want to look at more in-depth for actual wording, and of equal importance, location of the information in the organization of the rules. We will entertain a two-week comment period after which UKC will take all comments into consideration, prior to finalizing the rules.

It can never be expected for the entire UKC field trial community to be in agreement on every rule and policy. It is expected that we will have respectful discussions of these topics. It is our sincere hope that we will collectively put any differences in viewpoint aside and continue to support this outstanding program once final decisions have been made.

All observations, comments and suggestions should be directed to UKC in a written format. In an effort to keep the discussions organized, we will lock this summary thread. To discuss an item, please start a new thread specific to one topic and indicate the rule number or topic you wish to discuss. If a thread has already been established for that topic, please join the discussion already in progress.
