Ray i think were on the same page. i probably should'nt of been so vocal about my oppinion but i feel very stongly about this. i feel this breed of dog needs drastic change or as a breed they are in bad trouble a few years back when Wick came up with the Jug dog i thought that dog might breath some life back in em. but i don't know how he reprodced. i'd say theres some nice one's tucked away somewhere surely. but it aint the mainstream leopard strains.

Strict Breeding & Culling

The Lep people must do this or they will suffer .
just like the hounds have , the *Quote* breeders have got to get the $$$ out of there eyes and do the right thing for the Breeds .
of course when you are shipping out pups at 4 & 5oo $ a piece whose gone stop long enough to look and see whats between the ears ! I qestioned a lady that i will leave nameless a while back about her dogs and all she would say is we ship all over the world ! well thats good , that just means there world wide advertisers !

Doug where in KY do you live Northern KY is a big place.I'll meet you half way and we will drop the dogs.I know what I got you think you know what I got but you don't have a clue.If you have such high standards and your dogs are that much better than everybody elses you should be willing to meet me and show me the world beater you have.I'm not going to talk on here every day its point less.If you want to hunt we'll hunt if not we'll drop it.For the guy that was interested in a Leopard I'll take you any time you want to go.I've hunted with sorry dogs in every breed curs and hounds.I cull just as hard as anybody if not harder. If it don't suit me I don't let it go to someone else for them to have to worry about.

Gooduns'

Wow. It took me three tries to find a good dog. He's not the hardest tree dog but I have never not been able to find him. He's not the fastest track dog but there aint much that has ever gotten away from him. This dog just trees coon about 90% of the time where ever I drop him. My girlfriend hunted him in the world hunt this year and to be honest he advanced because he messed up less than the other dogs but it had not rained there for two months. This same dog has been match hunted against walkers, blueticks, and other curs and has rarely been beat. He is not the best dog I have but he will darn sure tree coon after coon after coon on any decent night and work like hell to get one up on the worst of nights.

I'm not saying that I don't believe you Doug but I have not had the same experiences that you have with leopards. Not even close. Jason Abbott is close to you and he ought to be able to end this streak of bad luck you are having. I hope the two of you have a fun night out.

To be fair, I should say that I have seen the type of dog that you describe...more than once. It's really to bad. With how easy and fun a leopard can be, it is a real treat to hunt with a good one.

You should take a look at the ad John Wick put out in the American Cooner. You don't know me from Adam but Wick has enough credibility so that you ought to be able to take his word for what he says. His dogs are very closely related to most of the dogs that I have. You might try one of them. I don't have anything to sell right now or I would make you a deal that you about couldn't refuse just to end this bad streak. I sure hope to see your apology here soon. Not because I am offended but because I feel bad that you have not gotten to hunt with a good one.

By the way, did you used to own Pick?

Dan i am going to give Jason a call today. and will hunt with him as soon as he can. it sounds like you all have real nice dogs not that i'm no authority on treedogs but i would love to see some good leopards. for my self.i know there out there. i think That leopard i had was Pick. he would babble and back a dog real quick or tree his own coon i could see how he could win but not my style i like more the kind of hound you described. clean stays out of trouble get over there and tree me a coon and keep him treed no more no less. could you get Jason to post his #. i also want to say that out of everwhere i went to look at dogs i met some of the nicest people that treated me the best so i don't want to sound ungrateful for there hospitality. but i'm talking about ability in dogs not people.

firestorm

The reason i posted this is on 11/1/07 I lost a top hound to the road. I had her bred back in augest and she did not take. Now the only hound i have does not meet my expectations of how she should preform. She will tree coons but just does not have that spark like my old dog did. I thought maybe about trying somthing else but apperintly I'm looking at the wrong breed. I'm looking for a hard hunting, track pushing, awesome treedog. Thanks for the info. Maybe in the future.

Tree Walkers

Find you a hard treeing fast trailing , Walker Female , Bread it to High headed , Loud mouth Fast running Walker Fox hound and you should wind up after a couple of more crosses with exactly what you want

So far I like sacket / clover crosses. Tree and track power and from what I've hunted, brains. I thought about that buck creek cross and I may still want a female. Where are u located boondok?

Cont...

Doug, you give us a report when you and Jason get done. I guess that I would love for you to have come to a different conclusion about the leopards but I do appreciate your straight forward style. It ain't hard to read and that's how I think a lot of folks like to recieve their information.

I had never hunted with Pic but I had heard about the same report on his hunting abilities and style.

Doug, wish this one was still alive. It would be my pleasure to show you what he could do. He would hunt as deep with any dog or by hisself. NKC NT CH Thornsley's Spring Valley Rex.
