Tim Stone was up for a hunt. Tim had Sadie & Kate. I took Luke & Fancy. There littermates that just turnt 14 months old. Kate got a later start and not going as good. She treed her first coon tonight. The others had thrown her out around 300 yds and were .6 miles away. Kate just dropped the hammer on one they missed. Fancy split treed on one deal. The sibs ended up making 11 trees all had at least one coon. We headed in just before midnight proud of the dog work by the youngsters. Tim was especially pleased with Kate. She hadn't been going but started going tonight.

COON HUNTING

Jack, your mail box is full.

Trey Melton & I headed north three hours to hunt with Jerrold Parker and his side kick, James "Beaver Cheeks" Curtis. Part of the night we split up where we could hunt two hounds together. This gives the young dogs a chance to do their own thing. It was dry and tough tracking. Several deals where the hounds just treed and no tracking. The group ended up treeing 14 trees with coon and catching one. A couple years back hunting the same areas Jerrold & I treed 26 trees with coon. That was a lifetime high number for a single nights hunt. We were hunting four nice hounds that night, Cindy, Irene, Flo and Bo. It's difficult putting 4 hounds with that ability together for a pleasure hunt, great memories. Thank you Jerrold for the hunts. Those all night hunts ate tough on me though.

Dennis thanks for coming up its always a pleasure hunting with you. You have not only thought me about hounds but more importantly you've gave me some life lessons as well. So thank you. Can't wait to go again. Get Josie healed up and I'll be ready. I'd give anything to have another like Cindy but I've came to realize that's probably never going to happen. She fat and out of shape but she still makes it look easy. Again thank you for all you've thought me along the way.

The past few moonlight nights hasn't been all that great for the young hounds. I've had a few fast tracks that didn't yield a coon in a tree. On the bright side of things we have treed a few coon and the hounds can push the junk around pretty good.

Jim Combs was up for a hunt Tuesday night. Jim was hunting Joe & i I hunted Luke. We both had a pup along also. We were able to tree five trees with coon plus a couple over sized rats.

Last night Phil Davis was over to hunt. Phil had his young gyps mates to my young dogs. I hunted Luke & Sadie. We treed 7 trees with coon. Toward midnight, the bright moon, 20 mph wind & temperatures in the mid 20s were rough on the old men. We decided to head in.

Phil and I turnt the hounds loose on a cold night. First deal Fancy & Luke went in 500 yds and Fancy treed a possum. Luke treed a few barks but knew he shouldn't be there. I'm not real concerned about a possum so I just scolded them and headed toward the truck. Next deal they opened at 300 yds, I would say something off . They ran it a couple hundred yards and shut up. They got deeper where Fancy treed in a hole at .92 miles. Luke treed just past a mile with a coon. Next deal they both blew up treed at 315 yards. Put the coon out and headed home. 19 degrees is a little cold for the old men. Phil's young gyps got fired up on the first tree but need some good running coon. Cold layup coon doesn't do much for young hounds just getting started.

Cory Mailes, his two boys and their friend was up for a hunt. They had John & Mack two fine hounds from Flo x Rattler. I took Irene & Luke. We made a slick persimmon and a couple other trees that were slick. Luke was split with a coon on one slick tree. We did manage to tree 5 trees with coon. I sure enjoy hunting with those guys.

Tim Stone was over for a little racoon treeing. We took the four litter mates. We both enjoy seeing them improve. It was a little cold but no wind. The girls put it on Luke on two different coon. He had a den tree across big water on one but the second coon they were 700 yds from him. We ended up making 4 trees with coon. I really enjoy driving close enough to take a picture of the coon setting in the pickup seat. The hounds had it spotted and were making it sound good. No reason to put it out to them.

Duane Swofford was up from Arkansas to hunt. He had Boomer and a gyp off of Boomer. I took Luke & Fancy. The hounds treed 7 trees with coon & one tree with lots of vines that we didn't find one. I call them slick trees this time of year. Fancy split once & Luke split by himself once.

A few hunts and a few days since I had updated. Richard Bebee and I went last night. Coon weren't moving good but we did manage to tree a 25# boar coon. The hounds put on in a beaver den. It took them awhile before they drug it out. Even then they got their fannies whipped. The water was 2 feet deep and it was more than the young hounds could handle. It sure makes a hound hate raccoons.

Jim Combs was up tonight along with Bill his friend. Jeremy my x son n law went along also. Poor hunt the first 4 turn outs. The hounds were going through sections and couldn't find a coon to tree. We did catch one in a beaver den. Jims dog finally pushed it out of the hole where the hounds could wrestle it. Then we treed 3 other big boar coon.

Jeff Lovell was up from Oklahoma for a hunt. Jeff had Sally & a pup he purchased from Cory Mailes. I hunted Luke & Fancy. The hounds had to work for the coon we managed to tree. Jeff thought we made 8 trees with coon. I couldnt remember but 7. We did tree a good running track to a big cottonwood den. I'm sure the coon was there and that would have been 8. Sally looked real good on a couple, Fancy split from Sally and looked good. Luke booticked around and found a couple sick ones.

The grandsons & Tim Stone was up a hunt. We took the 4 litter mates. Went to 4 trees and they all had coon. It was a little cool but I had to get out of the house on my birthday, big 60.
