Hey Carl

I've been meaning to ask how he was doing. I didn't know if you've got to hunt much this winter or not. This younger litter is all doing good too that are being hunted. Lula will have pups the 25th of this month from the same cross.
Good crosses make good reproducers. He'll cross good on your Nitro females.

Yeah Bawler was from one of the last crosses Grandpa got from Arkie before he died. I'm like Paul, I'd sure like to see a picture of your pup and see how much he favors ol Bawler.

My pup is gonna is going to favor the dogs you posted pics of on the vaughn thread, the pictures of vaughns Jitterbug,
Vaughns curley, and The hills Rock dog are going to favor my pup more I believe, he will be a little more narrow headed and short eared like them. Looking at all the hounds of the past, a good many of them were narrow headed and short eared, i wonder where all these big chuckle heads and long ears came in, surely no one bred for it instead of breeding for ability??

Glad you asked! I guess since I advertise to have "Arkie bred" hounds, I'll start with Tahsuda's Arkie,

Here's a picure of the tightest bred Tahsuda's Arkie hound that ever lived. Perryman's Blue Arkie II was from a father x daughter cross off Arkie. It don't get any tighter than that!

Here's son of Arkie and Perryman's Blue Bell, Horse Branch Bawler. Look at the ears on him!

I hope this answers your question about the looks of my Arkie hounds.
If you question their ability, I ask that you take their word for it instead of mine and come hunt with them! I'd be glad to have you! I bet you don't..

I argee my hounds has big chuckle heads and long ears they are of the Vaughn and Arkie bloodlines that traces back to breeder like Perryman, Rogers, Troy Rankins are just some of the older breeder that help make the hounds we enjoy today.

Steve,

Have you sent any of your hounds you breed out west for use on bobcat, lion, bear? I'm interested in what kind of feedback have you've gotten back if you have.

Alex, I sent a male out to a ranch near Sacramento CA about ten years ago to be used on bobcat. The last I heard, he was working good at one year old.
I sent one to Colorado this past September. To be honest, that particular pup was slower to start than the rest of his litter. He has since sent pictures and videos of him treeing on bear and lion and has put in a order for another. We are hunting his littermates on coon now.
I had one in Arizona used on lion and did real well, according the the outfitters using him.
I will gladly PM you the number of the man I Colorado and you can ask him about his pup. He hunts for a living and knows what he's talking about.

Thanks for the information, Steve. Sure, I'll take his number if you don't mind shooting it my way. How often do you generally have any started hounds available?

Not very often. I don't raise a lot of pups though I plan to raise a few litters this year. I'll shoot you his number.

What part of this post got yall boys all stirred up, me saying my hound wouldnt be chuckle headed but a touch more narrow headed and shorter eared?? Or asking if anyone had purposely bred for big heads and long ears? The pictures of vaughns jitterbug and curley, and hills rock on the other thread look more like my hound, thats all I was saying, why dont you post that picture on here so everyone can see those foundation dogs. Yall are acting like scholgirls over a simple question about head and ears.

Just an observation but you seem a little sensitive to the look of your hound when you insinuated that maybe others bred just for looks. Anyone that knows the Vaughn hound's history is aware of the fact that Elbert had quite a bit of variation in his stock. No big deal to me either way until the schoolgirl comment, no need for that.

Deepand alone thanks for your interest and your inquiry. In your statement, "surely no one bred for it instead breeding for ability", you insinuate that I have good looking hounds, and I appreciate that. Your "school girl" comment, I won't comment on due to the fact I don't know you, your age or your gender for that matter, and I have no intent on insulting you or your hounds. However, since posting the pics of my "foundation" stock, I've gotten a lot of pm's and calls.
Phil, thanks for your comments also. Hope everything is going good up your way! I'm sure you're ready for Spring! Lol
To answer a few recent questions, I will be having a litter in two weeks. Pretty sure the pups that we're not keeping are spoken for, but I'll keep everybody posted when they are on the ground.
I have another female that should breed today. Depending on how many she has, pups may be available from that cross.
As many of you know, I don't raise many pups. When I make a cross, it's for my personal use and I'll pass along what I'm not keeping to use.
I want to thank everyone for all the calls and messages!

Thanks Carl for mentioning the old Perryman stock in your comment. A lot of today's hounds are being line bred on descendants of some of Grandpa's best crosses. They've made an impact on the breed and will always be there.

Steve, Perryman Blueticks have always had the looks of your hounds of today. You have done a great job keeping the line a live and keeping the ability and having hounds that look like hounds.

Also if you look in the old Full Cry magazines of the 40's most breeder would state in their ads that they would not stud to the narrow nose and shorter eared type. I don't know why they are refered to as the competition style hound because you do not have to give up the houndy looks to get ability. I have picture of Vaughns Bawler, Vaughns Jitter Bug, Vaughns Blue Fly, Mountain Music Blue (Littermate to Vaughns Blue Fly), Vaughns Ark Blue and many more and none of them have narrow noses or short ears.

Just keep on keeping on.

Yeah I agree with you 100%! The breeders of the 40's and 50's bred as much for type, mouth and color as ability. They must've been crazy! lol
I also appreciate the complimensts!
Still waiting on you boys to come down for a hunt!

Perryman's Blue Abby Lou

Here's a young female I'm hunting now. Had her out a few times just haven't gotten her on a good hot track. She's stays busy hunting and will open on a rough track and try to tree a little on her own. Very independent hunter. I turned a coon loose to her this morning, and with Pepper's help, treed a squirrel! LOL
She did get excited though.
I want to thank Ken Gregory for allowing me to have this pup back home in Arkansas!
