Winter Classic

Had a great 3 days at the Winter Classic. Boone won his cast all three nights. Thursday at the slam scoring 175+.
Friday night scoring 500+.
Saturday Night scoring 250+.
Boone did a great job every night. We never took minus and only took 150 circle on a den. They read off the the top five combined scores and his combined score was good enough for 5th overall. They said there was 20 double cast winners. We hunted in all different terrain, from nice hardwoods to going to Arkansas Saturday night and hunting some delta flat bottom wet ground. We had great cast and hunted with some great dogs. His score was also good enough for High scoring Redbone Male.

There was quite a few Rebone cast winners in the south. Congrats to all the reddogs. I think we made a good showing for the breed.

Good job, Jared

That is a good showing of consistency. Beating the others in your cast is the best you can hope for. Winning overall is usually a crap shoot.

Congrat's

I drew a guy with a pretty good walker dog on Saturday night that said he hunted with a red dog named Boone the night before that was a sure enough a coon dog. I think your dog really impressed him.

congratulations on your wins. Hope we start to see some good females coming his way. I think his pedigree should work well with many different lines.

BB I hunted a many of a night with Grand Nite Champion Skeen' Fast Lane Wille he is the dog that I named Willow after he was the the complete package went hunting out standing strike trail and tree hound drift a bad track and would drive a hot track stay put solid tree dog not a ill hair on him and would not pull and had the meat very accurate seen him tree coons in all types of weather from swamps to the mountains to the cornfields in the midwest

I was hunting a walker dog Dual Grand Blue Ridge Aurora with her and Wille Norman and myself killed over 200 coons here in the mountains of VA I would say he is in the top five of the best dogs I have ever followed

And oh yeah I don't care what anybody was hunting if Willie was not opening it was not a coon period

Thank you

Thanks to everyone for the PM's, calls, and post. I really appreciate it. It has been fun training, competion hunting, and just plain ol killing coons to Boone throughout the last couple of years. I know and have been told that dogs like him don't come around very often in a lifetime. Boone will only be 4 years old at the end of February so I hope I have a few more years to hunt and hopefully watch him develop into an even better hound than what he already is. Win or lose it's great to know you have a chance to win every cast you enter with a dog like him no matter what the conditions seem to though at us.

This last weekend was a great trip and I had a great meeting new people and hunting with some great hounds. On Friday of the winter classic was one of the most memorable hunts I have ever had with some of the best coondogs I have ever hunted with as a whole. I had three Walkers in the cast and we had a four way split within the first 15 minutes of the hunt. All the dogs were about 450 yards from each other in all directions and three of the 4 dogs had coons. Boone had 2 in his tree and then other 2 males had coons and the female just come up a little short. So we spent the first hour leashed locked scoring other dogs trees. We then cut again in another spot and had a two way split, Boone took a first tree with 2 of the Walkers and the other Walker split scoring again. We then recut and all dogs went in different directions and Boone got treed again by himself having another coon. Time then was up on the hunt and Boone had won his cast. I would have hauled anyone of those walkers back North to Indiana. We had some great dog work as a whole with some great guys behind them. It was just an awesome hunt.
On Saturday we only scored on two coons and Boone was under one with the other 3 dogs on the first coon and then he got treed by himself with a coon about 1 mile from where we originally turned loose with 8 minutes to go in the hunt.
So far I am very happy with the one litter he has sired. I have had very good luck with my female and the others pups from what I here are coon crazy.

Good luck to everyone in the hunts this year.

It sounds like it is time for you and Boone to turn "Pro" and go on the road. Or maybe your Dad could hire a Pro Handler and send Boone on the road.

Some videos

Well Richard maybe I should start taking Resume's

Some people have asked me what Boone sounds like on the wood. Here is a short video that I took a couple of weeks ago hunting with a buddy. Sorry the video is sideways.

Click on video image and it should play.

Here is my 8 month Boone and Toadie pup in a little training session last week with a couple of off colored dogs. I believe she is a couple of months younger than the off colored dogs.

Click on image and it should play.

Hey Matt , she just had to have those walkers there to show her how to get it done. If you want a dog to hunt like a walker then they have to train like one. Isn't that right?
