And the winner is........ RAT ATTACK!!!!!!! He is hated by more, loved by more, argued over by more than any other dog on this subject. Give him the title of most famous coonhound .

Before I say a word I want it understood that what I say is just my opinion. I was told one time that opinions were like buttholes. We all have one and they all stink.

The most famous coonhound in my opinion is Sackett Jr. This is the first famous coonhound I ever heard of. I have only been around coonhunting for a few years. When I was first getting in to it, I did some research on the treeing walker breed because this was the breed of dog I would have. I seen all of the old dogs that got the breed started off. I read about Sackett Jr. I hunted with a dog that was Sackett Jr bred. I made the decision that when I got a pup, it would have Sackett Jr. in the pedigree. The pup I got is a great grand pup of Sackett Jr. on both sides.

Been alot of talk about reproducers. As far as the walker breed goes Rat Attack is your number one. I never hunted with him or seen him in person. My pups grandpa is Rat Attack. I wanted this way. Reason being is cause he is the number one reproducer. Seen on here where lots of people talked bad about him. I am sure he is not the only stud to throw pups that didn't make it. Best way I can say it is that every dog has a mother. The ones that were slick treeing idiots or whatever they were doing wrong should have ended up in the road ditch with small holes in there heads. Don't see how he can be number one and not throw good dogs.

The most famous dog since I have been into coon hunting is Trackman.

Best dog I ever been behind was GRNT. CH. Wipeout Easy Money (Hank) who is now deceased.

Just my opinion!!!!

17 years ago I was told to read this book by my fith grade teacher. I agree that book got me hooked.

I read this book in 9th or 10th grade and had to fight back tears at the end. A month later I asked an enderly coonhunter up the road if he would take me hunting and didn't miss a Friday or Saturday night after that until I graduated and left for the Navy. Coincidentally he hunted a fine pair of Redbones (Bob and Baby). I remained good friends with him until he passed away a few years back.

I don't honestly know the walker dog lines much. Hearing the name a lot doesn't tell me what they were, mainly how much they were bred, and what they were "throwing".

I know a little but not a lot about the blue dogs. I'd say out of blues the ones I hear the most about would be.

"Famous" means everyone immediately knows who you are referring to. Which means something different for different generations, probably more than breed owners. For instance there's probably some teenagers out there who would have no idea who Johnny Cash was, but there's probably many old timers who couldn't name one band on the top 20 pop chart.

So if you were to ask an old Walker owner, Finley River and or a House dog would certainly come to mind, but younger hunters would say Rat, Sackett Jr., X Jr. etc. But it doesn't matter if they won anything or produced anything, just if they were well known and do people recognize the name.

I think this has more affect than breed, as I would imagine that since Walkers are more prevalent than most other breeds combined, that even the other breed owners would recognize the Walker names.

For this reason I would say Finley River Chief as the most famous names amongst current coon hunters, but will soon fade away as he disappears from the multi-generation pedigrees. But amongst all people, I would agree that the names "Little Ann" and "Old Dan" are probably most well known!

Most Famous Coonhound IMO would have to be either Sackett Jr., Rat Attack, Nailor, or Lipper.
