First let me say that I have been coonhunting since the late sixties. I hunted with offspring from all the dogs that Drop Dead Fred came from. Back in the early 70's I decided to hunt House bred hounds. The reason was simple, they had the ability to handle the conditions I hunt in down here which are track first and then tree with the coon. If a dog can't track in these swamps they are worthless to me because you won't find a coon up their tree. Tyler Vaden bred his female to Fred and I got a female pup which I call Drop Dead Diva.
The ability coming out in her has been more like what I saw in years past than what I see today with a lot of young hounds. From the first night in the woods she went with the other dogs, she then started to run, then tree some, then trash some, then start to settle down and tree some more. Last night in harsh conditions she put it all together and impressed me. First drop by herself with another dog in the truck (which is sometimes hard on a young dog) Struck, trailed and treed a coon. On one turnout I had two deer walk in front of here about 50 yards and she went right by them. She must of remembered the last time she barked at one of them and the ALPHA bit her. lol Last turn out by herself she got about 100 yards in the swamps and struck run and treed another one.
This picture is from the night before which we hunted the same spots last night. Notice the dog is totally wet. Notice how high the water is up on the chaps and the coon is soaking wet. Conditions are hard down here right now for any dog as the woods are deep in water.

I know everyone is looking for their dogs to get off and be loaners. I do to but I want them to be loaners for a different reason than most are breeding for. I will try to explain.
Many dogs are being bred to a fault to get away from other dogs. They will not perform well on some coon tracks because another dog is running that track and they will leave the area to find their own track They will not back another dog on a tree and go and find their own. That works in thick coon and in a comp hunt where you are not hunting feeders. Here is what I want and how I want my dog to get by itself. I want it alone because of it's ability to track a coon and locate the right tree is superior to the other hounds. You have to have been there to understand what I am saying. They are not by themselves because they don't like the other dogs or were beat to get away from them. They are by themselves because of their ability. Thats the loaner I am looking for and thats the loaner I see in my Fred pup.
I didn't even mention mouth. That is something else that everyday a walker is born becomes more chop, chop, chop. Not the case with my Fred Pup!!
We also have a few of these to contend with every night!!
