After treeing 13 on Sunday night, tonight was a little slow. It started of good. I sent Echo & Reblet. Echo struck on the creek & Reblet struck 75 yds left. Echo trees quick with Reblet backing , coon out. Next deal Reblet opens 75 yds in with Echo going to her. They tree quick, coon out. Next one both tree slick. I send on where Echo trees at 240 yds on a den tree. Next dump I gather Irene & Reblet as they come to the road. Next dump Reblet opens at 60 yds and trees on a big den. Irene is treed at 912 yds, coon out. Reblet & Irene boo tick for 30 minutes before Irene leaves out. I gather her 3/4 of a mile as she is close to a black top. Reblet trees a slick where she had been jacking around for a long time. I send all three. Irene & Echo makes a 250 yds circle and was getting ready to cross on posted land. I call them but Reblet falls treed at 165 yds the way I sent them. Both cover and coon out. Next deal Reblet falls treed at 52 feet. Irene & Echo were 150 yds but come back, coon out. Irene falls treed at 550 yds both cover. Left the coon for next year.

Luke

I had only owned Luke a couple weeks in this picture. He wasn't a year old at the time. He is from Rebel x Daisy. Daisy is a Gr Nt sister to the Irene female I enjoy hunting. Luke is 13 months old now and seems to like Kansas. Mr Turnbow thought I had ran out of dog feed. Luke has gained a little weight now and looking better. I'm looking forward to hunting Luke and a couple other young hounds this season.

That track was one of many. From about mid August to mid October we had at least one good bean field runner each night. That's why I couldn't get weight on Luke. The hounds are often 10 to 20 yards behind the coon. The coon is hot putting off lots of scent & the hounds are going nuts attempting to run it hard. They sometimes get it treed but often they just get beat up. There's no hair around their eyes, nose is raw and seeping a little blood. The eyes matter shut and they get a little tougher. Beans are harvested or dried down now & I'm glad. The hounds catch them now if they try running in the beans. I attempt to stay away from beans when there dried down. Beans will shatter if hounds hit them. Tim Stone has two sisters, Sadie & Kate to Luke & Fancy. Tim was up for a hunt tonight. His Sadie & Fancy ran a good track down a big creek a half mile and got treed right. We drove around and walked to them 850 yds. Those two gyps were treed right until we arrived at the tree. The litter there from is working out. For 13 month old young dogs there nice. No water barking, no track jacking, no babbling, get deep to strike and as accurate of treedogs as I have seen. Luke has worked himself into hunting alone time. Sorry I'll have to pass up a lot of fellowship hunts but that's the bad breaks. Fancy needs to be more confident on cold scent trees. When and if she gets the confidence, she will be a tough little hound to beat.

Went for a pleasure hunt with Paul Vaughn Thursday night. Jim Combs & Larry Carlin rounded out the old timers pleasure hunt. We treed 6 trees with coon and had plenty of great dog work & fellowship. Friday night we attended the BBCHA Sectional. Larry won the night champion with 1350+ . I won open with 650 + with Luke.

Tim Stone and I took a little hunt tonight. First turnout Sadie & Fancy took a track 600 yds and treed a coon. Chief and Tim's Sadie gyp backed. They had went left of mine and deeper but didn't get struck. Next deal Tim's Sadie treed first but we didn't see a coon. We sent the 3 gyps on the next deal. Fancy & Tim's Sadie treed a double. My Sadie gyp hasn't decided to be a treedog yet but does good on most tracks. Tim's Sadie trees first after a short track on the next deal and had a coon. The last deal the gyps ended up in a beaver hole. My two were deep in the hole fighting the coon. After a few battles in the hole they come out. I sent Fancy & Sadie on the way home. They went in 850 and treed on a large oak den. Glad the beans were cut where I could drive to them. Tim has two gyps mates to Fancy & Luke. All 4 are making nice treedogs that tree coon.

Dennis

I talked about that cross with Rebel and a Bob female. I figured with all the looks and mouth it should pan out to be something nice. Are you thinking of breeding your Grand Irene back to Rebel or Boomer. I know you have been think on it or your dog poor.

Trey, i hope they get much better.

Duane Swofford was up for a hunt. He had Boomer & a young gyp off Boomer x Cheater. I took Irene & Fancy. Good dog work and we had 7 trees and looked at a coon in all. Couple times they split treed.

I bet it didn't take the Grandchildren as long to learn how to use it as it did you and me.

The children figure out how to use it in one hunt. Kansas season opens tomorrow night. Time to start making a coondog out of the young hounds I've been spending time with. Steve Nading, Phil Davis & I are planning an old timers hunting party.

The young gyp that Ed hunted done more than her share tonight. Treed six trees with coon. Had one tree we didn't see one in. Luke lucked out and was split treed. Fancy & Eds gyp sure thought they had one & may have. In 4 nights the young hounds have made 27 trees with coon, Caught one on the ground, two den trees, two slick trees & had one in a beaver hole that chewed on them. Poor fur prices = great time pleasure hunting. Be safe out there hunting and enjoy those hounds. God Bless.

P.S. These young dogs aren't so lazy they won't exercise a little speed beef but smart enough to drop off a get treed on a coon. A little electro therapy is going to be applied soon.
