A soldier is required to salute the president, but the president is not expected to return the salute, but is free to do so. Reagan started saluting and every president since then has. How many soldiers do you think the president sees in a day. The captain on my ship hardly ever returned a salute to me, but he saw me several times a day and I am sure that the president has seen those marines a few times.

I've seen figures of 3700 a day in the US. Unbelievable that we don't stop it. Some even vote for it

It's not a flattering pic ... doesn't matter what context it is in once it gets passed around and that first impression hits .


When you add that pic with the ones of him not holding his hand over his heart when the Anthem is played and a few others ... it does paint a picture that nobody wants to hear excuses about .
