bowl seeding

Many bowls have predetermined opponents by conference finish so if a leagues #2 team goes to a BCS game their #3 team moves which is what happened to Wisc. Many years the B10 will have every team except their champ play up and the SEC does the same.As far as the SEC goes they are a very good football conference right now but its not always this way and the same has happened in other conferences as well. Here is an interesting stat youll dispute but all 12 SEC schools played 3 teams that are ranked in the top 25 as of right now and have a record of 1 win and 2 losses with 1 win LSU over VTech and the losses being Auburn to Clemson and Miss St.to West Virginia hardly the killer Non-conference schedule.

Well now as you can tell I was layin it on thick and jokeing in the post above.

However 100% serious that after that huge run of only one loss in the bowls it was made public that they changed the way they picked the SEC teams to make it "more competitive" and "a better game for the fans". That's when they got away from the 2 vs 2, 3 vs 4 etc.

Now they have an excuse for it because of the BCS, but they started that back in the 90's when the SEC went two years with only 1 bowl loss among all schools. That was when the Big 10 and SEC had the bowl tie ins and why the Big 10 bowl record was so sucky. It has improved recently after the new mercy seeding.

Auburn beat Clemson by the way, and when you have a conference that is as strong as the SEC you really don't need to schedule OOC opponents that are powerhouses.

Many SEC teams don't play a very strong OOC schedule, but their arguement as to why is valid when you compare how easy other conferences have it to get to a BCS bowl.

Tennessee plays anybody anywhere and we play home and homes with them. They are my team and the only one I care about OOC schedule. We played Cal this year (first game of the season before their injuries etc and went to Cal to do it) and last, Notre Dame a couple years ago, Miami a couple years ago when they were NC contenders etc. Florida plays Florida State every year.

Someone said that Florida was only the 5th best team in the sec. Well they were still ranked 12th in the nation. They got beat by an unranked BIG TEN team. Just think what would have happened if MI was ranked. LOL

All these teams Big Ten, SEC, Big Twelve, ACC, Pac Ten, Big East recruite from the same pool. I don't see much difference's in any of the conference's.

They used to match them pretty close 2vs3 etc. Now they make sure the SEC is at least 2-3 spots below the opponent to "make it competitive" since the 15-1 or so run the SEC had in bowls in the 90's. Florida was the SEC 5th place team.

That's FIFTH PLACE boys and Mechicken was what 3rd?

The SEC played up in every bowl game this year with the exception of whisky which Tennessee was 2nd in the SEC and Whisky 4th. The only other "equal" match is the LSU/tOSU matchup.

By the way, just what is the record of the little 10 in bowls this year? I didn't think you would want to remember that one and you got one "win" against a very crappy CMU that was actually a rematch.

What's the SEC bowl record this year? Oh that's right it's 6-2.

It's soon to be 7-2.

As usual the little 10 is exposed as a very over rated, slow, weak conference.

As I said before tOSU does stand a chance becasue LSU is a West team and they don't have the typical speed of an East team. What's tOSU's record against the SEC in bowls? They have played all East teams. They might luck up in this next one, but don't hold your breath.

Truthfully they should just award the Sears Trophy when they award the SEC Championship trophy, the SEC is just that **** good.

LMBO

I love how you try to justify this beatdown by a BIG TEN team. Lucky??? That game was two fumbles or 6 yards away from being a complete blow out!!!

As for #2 in the conference playing the #3 or #4 from the SEC,,, you had me laughing,,,,, at you,,, not with you. The #12 in the country playing an unranked, slow, beaten by a 1AA school team, and you are trying to say that because Meatchicken was the #3 team in the BIG TEN, they played down to Flor-i-duh? Oh, and Tennecheat was still higher ranking the the AP than Whisky.

U of M had 524 yards of total offense in this game. Ohio State gave up 94 yards when they played Meatchicken,,, in AA. I thought that with all that SEC speed, things would be the other way around.

While am at it, hey Robert Starke, CHOKE-lahoma one of the two best teams in the country,,,, and you believed it??? Boise state last year, now this? Have the Spooners ever won a BSC game? Yes,,, they are 2-4, last winning IN 2003!!!! Four losses in a row. Comical.

Here's the bigger conferences' post-season record this bowl season...

SEC 6-2
Pac-10 4-2
Big 12 4-3
Big East 2-2
Big 10 3-4
ACC 2-5

None of those numbers really surprise me much. Most still have one game remaining.

Just like last year when Florida said "heck it wasn't a big deal to beat them like that, there's three or four other SEC teams that would have beat them just as bad", the same could be said this year.

We'll see, it's mighty nice to play a very weak schedule and back into the NC game.

Virginia Tech had made that a staple a few years ago LOL.

They got a month to get better, but LSU would hand them their backsides. They have a better chance against Georgia (highly over rated IMO as well).

Hey man, I am not a rabid, foaming at the mouth SEC guy. I actually live in ACC country and follow it more closely, but I can tell you from top-to-bottom the SEC is the toughest conference around. I will also tell you that the top teams from the major conferences are all pretty well matched with each other. The bowl results so far bear out these observations, imo. The SEC's strength lies in the fact that their "2nd tier" teams are still very good football teams....more so that other conferences....

I also have a hunch that Ohio State might beat LSU because they have been motivated by what happened to them last year and because LSU is kind of a Jekyl/Hyde team that may or may not show up focused on the task at hand. I also think Tressel (sp?) is a better coach that Miles and that he probably has been scheming and stewing over what happened last year for about 360 some days lol....My money is on sweater boy, but I think LSU will bring the better raw talent to the field.

You 're right. We looked like a girls flag football team. I thought for sure Stoups wouldn't choke this time. He is probably one of the best recruiters and probably one of the worst big game coaches around. OU is loaded with talent. His bowl record is 2-4. Can't argue. OU looked like they hadn't prepared for the game at all. If WV hadn't lost their running back, the score would have been embarrassing. Good luck to your OSU team.

Thank you for your kind post. If I was a betting man, I would have laid a ton of cash on OU based on their prior game. With the PITT game that WV had and losing their coach, I thought that OU would have killed them.

Here is the problem with this year: There are around 5-6 teams that are talented enough to go to the big dance, and everyone can make an argument for their team. There are not two teams that are head and shoulders above the rest of NCAA football. SoCal is a team that beat two -- I repeat, two teams with winning records during the entire regular season and lost to a team (Stanford) that finished the year 4-8, and they say Ohio State didn't play anyone. The media love fest makes me puke.Ohio State lost to Ill. WV was beat by a 4 touchdown dog at home. LSU lost two games that they shouldn't have. Same with Georgia. I am not saying that Ohio State belongs in the Nat Champ game. I am saying that I can make an argument that any other team shouldn't be there either. This is the hand that the BCS dealt. Nothing anyone can do about it.

Penn State joined the Big Ten in 1990 to make the 11th team. They have been trying to get a 12th team for some time now so they can have two divisions like the SEC and have a Conference Championship game. Why don't they change the name to the Big eleven? It just sounds corny, I guess.

You guys are a riot.

Fact is Florida was the #5 team in the conference AT BEST.

They were 3rd in the East alone.

They were playing the Little 10's tied for 2nd Michecken, if Michecken had beaten tOSU they would have been conference champs. That's the way you can compare conferences, and it's also why the bowls made the mercy change when the little ten was like 1-15 against the SEC for 3 or so years and they started making the SEC play up more.

National rankings don't mean squat, look at Hawaii, they didn't belong. You want to mention Arkansas, exactly where did they finish in the SEC? 8th or so? So the SEC's 8th place team couldn't beat the Big 12's 2 or 3rd place team? Why am I not surprised? They SHOULD have lost (notice I didn't say 2nd ranked team, national rankings don't mean anything because some have great records from playing cupcakes and some have more losses while playing a real schedule).

Yes tOSU would have finished at least 4th in the SEC, they had a very cupcake schedule and still lost a game. They may even beat LSU this year, but I don't for a minute think they could have went through an SEC schedule and came out with fewer than 4-5 losses this year (for goodness sake they lost to ILLINOIS).

They do have a chance against LSU because LSU isn't the typical speedy SEC East team that tOSU can't beat (heck they couldn't even beat SEC dormat South Carolina and they had not one but TWO shots at it).

The difference in speed was apparent in the Whisky/Tennessee game. Even without their number 1 receiver and #1 linebacker they were still head and shoulders above the Badgers in speed. Receivers running wide open all over the place, Tight end once again OUTRUNNING the secondary players, that's a tight end folks (not as bad as when Whitten looked like a track star against Mechicken but still).

Florida got beat, never said they didn't, of cours it wasn't like Florida was playing the #5 little 10 team.

Sorry but as a conference the SEC is just head and shoulders above the rest. It's not even debatable. Just look at the bowl record. The WORST they could do is 6-3 and that's if IF LSU has a bad game and the stars align perfectly for tainted OSU. The best the little 10 could do is 500 and that's with them playing DOWN in almost every game.

Ok, it's been fun but it's all over tomorrow night.

The tOSU guys have really got thin skin and it's been fun razzin em.

In all honesty mentally this should be tOSU's game to lose. They can play the "us against the world" theme plus the revenge theme for looking like cupcakes against the turds last year.

This is a win-win for me. Either way I am happy. If LSU loses, well that's just great, can't stand em and don't think Les is that great of a coach (if he was there's no way in *&** a Randy Sanders coached offense would have came back on them and beat them like Tennessee did in Baton Rouge a couple of years ago).

If tOSU loses we got 0-9 against the SEC, so that's great too.

In all honesty, LSU isn't that fast. Tennessee has the slowest team we have had since the 80's and we stayed right with them and without the Ainge cluster would have likely beaten them. We have the WORST defense in the SEC and the WORST defense since Chavis has been there so that's sayin alot. tOSU won't have such a mismatch with speed this year because of it.

tOSU has a chance. I may not be able to get on here just like I haven't been on here very much lately. It may take a day or two but believe me if they do pull the upset I will give all you tOSU/little 10 fans the chance to serve your crow.

Power vs. speed

I will give all you SEC"ers this, it is a nice conference. To say they are heads and shoulders above the best i think you have been listening to Mark May a little too long.
I also agree the Big 10 is down this yr., but after watching 2 sec vs. big10 bowl games already.....think about it.
Michigan/Florida...Michigan dominated this game in every way. minus a couple of screw ups it would have been a blowout!
Wisc./Tenn....Hell of a game, down to the wire.
From them games could you say one conference way better either way...no way!

I want to add this..what do you think the bowl % would be if SEC had to head north to the snow for the bowl games....on perfect climate speed is a nice advantage, on ice, snow and mudd i would say strength and size is a nice advantage....thats real Football !

Sec is usually the closer team to where the game is being held regardless of what conference they are playing. (exept usc)

Let it be settled tomorrow!

Where is 5-speed and all the other little tenners?

SEC Speed dominates again. It wasn't even a game.

That vaunted #1 defense was obviously only #1 due to lack of playing a decent football team. Yes tOSU would likely have had 4 losses or more likely even more if they played in the SEC.

Complete and total domination. 7-2 in bowls this year.

They really should just start handing out the Sears Trophy to the winner of the SEC Championship game.

5 speed

Boomer Sooner! Season is right around the corner. Let's crank it up! Is there anything that will compare to college football?
