HUNT

Ready to hit it tonight. This rain cooled things down a little and I look forward to cutting some of these young dogs loose. I have a couple that I have to make a decision on soon and will concentrate on them. I will be hunting Goose hard and plan to hit shows and hunts to work towards Dual Grand. Ryan will be back hunting Dolly since she has went out of heat and we got her bred to Goose. She has 2 - 1sts and a 3rd place wins. I have a Dual Grand female that I have acquired and have plans to breed her to Goose in the near future. She is a proven reproducer of some hard going dogs and Goose is throwing the same. I've got my Scout pup out of Floyd and GrNtCh Wilsons Blue Emma that is about 6mths old. He will tree on a hang up and hates a caged coon. I will start hunting him soon. Been waiting on some of our corn to get ready and these blackberries to get gone. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

Ryan and I had a rough hunt last night. First drop we cut Dolly and Spanky in a swamp bottom and Dolly struck pretty quick and started a track. she trailed about 150yds and loaded up treed. We made our way to her and she had the meat. We rolled it out to her as she has had some struggles since she went out of heat. Next drop we cut Goose and Leroy up the bottom. They left hard and Ryan decided he wanted to cut Spanky in a different direction and went to the truck to cut him loose. He came walking back and in about 3 minutes Dolly was opening in the bottom. He had left the dog box door latch loose and she got out. Dolly, Spanky and Goose were soon deep and struck a track. They ran that track for the next 1 1/2 hours. round and round and tree and leave. I was so frustrated. I haven't had to chase any junk runners in a long time but we were running a fox or a bobcat last night. We finally got close enough to get all of them caught up at but 1:00 am this morning. I gave Goose one of them ole fashion tail whippings. He has ran off game one other time in a year but I guess he decided it was time to stretch his legs. We gone stay on em!!

HUNT

Ryan and I hunted last night and it is just blistering hot. First drop we cut Dolly and Leroy in a cornfield. Coons were not hitting the corn in this field yet but Dolly struck a track in the woods behind the field. She trailed up across a hill and into another patch of woods bordering another cornfield. She soon loaded up and we moved up the road to within about 300yds of her and headed in to her. She had the meat and coons were hitting the corn in this field. We rolled it out as the land owner will only let us hunt if we agree to shoot them. Leroy had went his own way and I ended up catching him up. I cut Goose and my Queen pup down beside another corn field but Goose hit the woods and a creek and crossed under the road into not so good of territory. He fell treed at 200yds but didn't sound right. We got close to him and he left. I have never seen him leave a coon and had a sneaky feeling it might be a possum. I used the Garmin and sure enough found where he was treed and it was a possum. He got out of dodge on me after that as I had wore him out a couple of months ago on a possum and he had not treed one since. We ended up driving around and catching him coming up the river. We called it a night and will try again tonight. This heat is about to kill me and the dogs!! Y'all Keep'em Lookin' up!!

C'mon up, Darren

90 degrees yesterday, but after a nice afternoon shower, it was 70 out with a bright moon. Our corn isn't ready yet, but should be in a couple weeks, then the races really begin. Coon are eating mulberries & choke cheeries now & kits are really moving. You didn't mention seeing any snakes, but I don't have to worry about that up here!!! I'm about 3+ hrs. south of Scott, so you could have a nice little vacation. Take care, Ron.

Hunt

Ryan and I hunted for a while last night. First drop we cut Cotton and Goose around a cornfield. Cotton struck and opened a few times and fell treed on a small branch. Goose soon split treed about 30 yds behind her. We saw Cotton’s coon from the field and the landowner was with us and we rolled it out. We couldn’t see Goose’s tree as he was treed in a mess. We cut Goose and Dolly on down the field. Goose blowed out of there and got close to the road. We caught all the dogs up. Last drop we cut Dolly and Cotton in another cornfield. They never struck in the field but hit the river and struck. Cotton crossed the river and treed with Dolly backing her. They had a coon but we lost him and never seen him again. It was hot and we called it a night. Y’all keep’em lookin up!!

Ron I would love to come up and hunt with you sometime!

Hot

Congrats on finishing Cotton out Darren. Well Deserved. I will agree with you on the heat, it is Smothering Hot. Been 85 to 90 heat index at 9pm the past couple weeks. We got some rain this evening that cooled us off so me and the grand boys along with Mr B H are going to hit it a while tonight. A rare cool front is coming Tuesday and the highs will be in mid 80’s with lower humidity so next week looks real good. Stay on those young hounds and pick the ones you like best and have fun. We can over load ourselves sometimes and take the fun out of it, I’ve done it plenty because I like pups. Hope to see you at some hunts this Fall, take care and good hunting.

Hunt

Thanks Steve I appreciate it buddy. Happy for you that you can hit the woods.

I went over to Columbus , Ms last night and showed and hunted Goose. Ryan hunted and showed Dolly. Goose got a champion win and Dolly got class and breed. She needs 15 points to be CH. I was the only NtCh at the hunt and Randy Basson guides and judged me and Goose. We cut Goose in a big swamp and he got deep and got treed. We waded knee deep water for about 30-40 minutes getting to him. I killed a water moccasin on the way into the tree. We found his coon quick and started the long wet walk to the truck. Ended up the only coon we saw and finished with 225+ to get a win. I’ll take it. Ryan didn’t do any good with Dolly. Said she looked good but missed a coon by about 10 yds and drew minus. I got to meet some nice guys. I appreciate Randy guiding and judging me. Mr. Purdue is a very nice guy and Jason Gilliam as well. I may have spelled Mr. Pardue’s name wrong. Y’all keep’em lookin up!!

Congrats

To you & Goose. Ya gotta take an easier win when you can get it. The dog still had to get the job done to earn it. D__n glad you was hunting where you was & I was hunting where I was. No snakes or swamps & a cool front/shower went thru before dark, so it was 70, low humidity & light breeze- beautiful with clouds covering moon. My results are on my site. Take care, Ron.

HUNT

I didn't get to hunt last night due to my Wife's uncle passing away and the funeral was yesterday. I will be hitting the woods tonight. I am going to put the pressure back on Vapor. His mouth hasn't been right since I got back off vacation in June and I have stood him up and tried to doctor his mouth. It has came back but not as loud as he was before. I am going to continue to push Goose towards his Dual Grand degree. Keith Sparks and Ryan both have young males out of Goose that are treeing their own coon. They are around a year old now. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!!

HUNT

Ryan and I hunted for a while last night. First drop we cut Cotton and Annie loose in a small cornfield. They didn't strike in the cornfield but Cotton struck about 200yds in the woods on a creek. She got the track going good and was soon putting the pressure on the coon. She ran him up in some hills and soon loaded up treed in the edge of another cornfield. Annie was at the tree and I shot the coon and he walked down the tree. Cotton snatched him off the side of the tree and the fight was on. I grabbed Cotton to let Annie get some of that fight but Annie wasn't getting ahold of that coon much. He turned and walked off and started up a small tree. I cut Cotton and she jumped up and snatched him off that tree and finished him off. We moved to another cornfield and cut Goose, Vapor , and Annie. They went the wrong way and crossed the river. Goose was about 750yds and Vapor had split off and soon treed at 575yds. We got to Vapor and he was treed in a mess on the side of the river. Ryan spotted his coon up a wild cherry tree. Goose head gotten deep up the river and we had another hunter that was hunting up there. His walker dog came into Vapor's tree and followed us out. We ended up meeting them in a field across the river and they had Goose in the dog box. We switched the walker for Goose and headed up the river to the truck. It was midnight and we called it a night. It was a little cooler here last night but not much. We did a lot of walking. Gone stay on them! Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

I hunted by myself last night. First drop I cut Goose and my Queen pup. They hit a branch down the hollow and followed it out of the hills into a creek bottom. I had to move around at one point as Goose was at .68 and steadily going. I got within 600yds of them and Goose was opening here and there on the river. He crossed the river and soon I heard him load up. I drove around and walked in to the tree and he was on a huge den tree that had split open. I looked for a while but figure it was in the den. Next drop I cut Cotton and vapor into a swamp bottom. Vapor opened a few times at about 350yds but it seemed cold. Cotton crossed out of the bottom and headed up a small branch in the hills. She soon struck a bad track and started working it up the branch. Vapor soon joined her and Cotton soon loaded up with Vapor hitting it almost the same time. They were up a large tree full of muscadines. I couldn't find the coon but he could have been anywhere. I called it a night as it was 11:45 by the time I got to the truck. I have acquired half interest in Dual Grand Lovell's Smokey River Ann and have her at the kennel. I plan to hunt her up and see what she has to offer. My plan is to breed her to Goose in the future. I just missed her heat cycle and it will be January when she is due. Will give me time to evaluate her strengths and weaknesses.

HUNT

I took Goose to Jasper Saturday night to a hunt and show. He was the only Ch male so we got the win. Hunted in the hunt and there were 3 NTCH casts. Goose had 1st and 1st with a coon alone on first drop with other 2 dogs treeing on a feeder with a kitten coon. I was winning cast with about 30 minutes left. Other 2 dogs treed but no coon seen. Goose was 975yds alone. We moved closer and cut other 2 dogs and they got treed next to a deer feeder and had a coon. Goose was down the creek and the hunt time ran out. Black and Tan won the cast on a tie breaker. Ryan hunted Dolly and didn't do any good either. We will keep plugging along!! Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!

Keep'em hunted

Sounds like your staying at it, even in heat. Grand daughter(Madi) & I are headed to Michigan Madness hunt for the week with Annie & Freak. Big flat woods with lots of coon. Calling for 80/day, 60/night, so should be a good time. Take care, Ron.

HUNT

Ron that sounds like a great trip to take!! It sure is hot and humid here!

I hunted by myself last night. I cut Vapor alone but he didn't hunt well. He has always had a good motor but he is limping on the foot again. It had gotten better but is swollen again and has the pus filled bumps between his pad and toes. I am going to get him to the vet to see if we can get him cleared up. Next drop I cut Ann and Cotton. Ann struck first at about 200yds followed by Cotton. They worked a track pretty good down the bottom and up on the side of a small hill and Cotton loaded up treed. Ann backed her and I spotted their coon pretty quick up a tree with a lot of muscadines. I loaded up and moved down the bottom and cut Cotton and Ann again. Ann struck first again and Cotton opened about 15yds past her. They worked a decent track down the creek but made a big circle and treed within 50yds of where they struck. Cotton loaded up and Ann hit it right behind her. I finally found their coon and ended up calling it a night. It is hot here on the dogs. Cotton and Ann were both hot. I was pretty hot myself!! Gone stay on em!! Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

I hunted for a while last night. Ryan went with me. First drop we cut Dolly and Ann loose in a cornfield. Ann struck followed by Dolly. They worked into the woods and up a small creek. both dogs hit up a time or two and moved on up the bottom. Dolly located and Ann hit it right with her. They were up a large tree full of muscadine vines. There was so much privot hedge growing that we could only see a small portion of the tree. We finally gave up an moved. Next drop we cut Dolly, Cotton and a young female I call Roxie loose up a creek bottom. Dolly struck first with Cotton close behind. Roxie opened with them and it was a good track. They ran across the bottom into the edge of the hills and Cotton just died on a tree with 2 or 3 screaming dying bawls. She rolled over into that chop and Dolly loaded up and hammered as well. Roxie treed pretty good with them too. Roxie was a little loose on the tree but she has had very limited hunting. I soon spotted the coon in the top of the tree and Ryan rolled it out. Roxie is very gritty and didn't back off that coon. Dolly and Cotton helped finish him off. We decided to call it a night as Ryan was not feeling good. Roxie has a lot of potential. She is bred good and her momma is a sure fire coondog. Her momma is out of Ole Logan and is a half sister to Cotton. Gone stay on them. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!1

I have 2 young females that I am going to give away. One is lightly started at 10mths old and the other is out of Floyd. I bought her back from a guy but she had barked her mouth out. It may come back or may not. She is Tucker's Blue Boomer on bottom and is 5 mths old. Good looking little gyp. Call me if you need one!!

hunt

Ryan and I hunted last night for a while. First drop we cut Spanky and Ann up a ditch leading into a bottom. Ann struck and Spanky opened a few times with her.It wasn't a good track at all. They got into a bad swamp and really got hung up. We gave them a while but eventually decided to just catch them up. Next drop I cut Cotton and Roxie in a creek bottom. Roxie struck and was coming back up the creek towards the road and I ended up catching her as I don't want her on the other side of the road. Cotton soon opened at about 350yds and trailed up a small branch. She soon loaded up treed. Ryan spotted her coon and I petted her up and we called it a night. I am ready for some cooler weather to get here. This has been a miserable summer to coon hunt. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

I have been extremely busy the last couple of weeks and haven't even had time to update my hunts. Ryan and I headed out Friday night to Scotts Hill, Tennessee to a UKC hunt and show. Ryan showed Dolly and got best of show female and I showed Ann and got Ch female. I hunted Dolly in the first round and we couldn't get after a decent track. Dolly got first strike and first tree on the only tree we made during the 1 hour hunt time. It was a den with a hole in the bottom. Ryan handled Dolly in the late round and pretty much the same thing. First tree was a den and the second tree was a big leafy tree. Two dead casts!! We rolled in at 5 am on Saturday morning so it was a heck of a night. Ryan hunted last night a Spanky treed one alone and Cotton treed one alone as well. I plan to hunt Cotton in a RQE this weekend. Dolly is getting big so I figure her hunts are out til pups are weaned. Steve Wilson brought me a nice stud pup out of Floyd this weekend.

I appreciate it guys. I plan to grand her out on bench and make her a dual grand. I actually thought she was already a dual grand but she is a ChGrNtCh. I'll get it done soon.

FOOTBALL

Well we started football last week and my schedule has been crazy. I handle schools and high school football for Pepsi and it has been crazy at work with everything getting started. It will take a few weeks for things to settle in at work and at home. I hunted Thursday night and we treed one coon deep. I hunted Ann and Cotton. I took Cotton to a RQE Saturday night and she didn't look good. I think she got put off the first tree and blew out of there and hit an old sorry track deep. None of the dogs in the cast really shined but a GrNtCh walker male won the cast with 100 plus. Hopefully I can get to hunt a couple nights this week. I am going to get started on Scout ( FLOYD x GrNtCh Wilsons Blue Emma) . Y'all keep'em Lookin' Up!!
