HUNT

Drake, Ryan, and I hunted for a little while last night. We hunted on a some land owned by a friend of Ryan. It was a small hollow with a creek and big hills on each side. There was some good timber but also big patches of pines too. We cut Goose, Rock, and Dolly up the branch. Dolly struck and Rock opened a few times close to her. Dolly soon loaded up treed and we headed to the tree. Goose was 700yds and I was losing communication with him off and on. We didn't see Dolly's coon and she just missed him. Rock was opening on up the hollow so we cut Dolly to him. I walked up on a hill as I had lost communication with Goose. Dolly soon opened with Rock and they were headed up a small creek that joined the main branch coming out of the hills. They were getting deep and the land owner said we could drive closer. We got to the truck and I could barely hear Goose treed. I was getting a question mark on the Garmin from my DC 50 collar. Drake and I headed to Goose and Ryan and his friend drove around to Rock and Dolly. I walked for a long time and finally got a signal on Goose at .87 . We finally got to him after walking through some rough stuff. He was treed up on a big hill up a big oak tree. There was not a coon up the tree BUT..... there was a big greasy possum sitting up a small pine tree about 3 trees over. Ole Goose thinks he was being slick!! lol I was not a happy camper. Goose and I had a little meeting and we headed out. I looked at the Garmin and we were 300yds from a road. We walked to the road and called Ryan and his buddy to come get us. We were 1.75 miles from the truck according to the Garmin. Dolly and Rock had gotten treed and had the meat. Ryan rolled it out to them and had recut. We got back around there and they were treed up a large den tree. It was about 11:30 so we called it a night. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and I will be headed to Cottondale Saturday night.
Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!

HUNT

Drake , Ryan, and I hunted last night for a while. First drop we cut Rock and Vapor loose in a swamp bottom. Rock struck followed by Vapor. They worked a bad track down the bottom and soon took a right hand turn and headed across the bottom. Vapor located and went on a tree but he didn't stick it. They worked on across the bottom and Rock located and loaded up treed. Vapor never backed him and we got to the tree and Rock was up a den tree. We headed to the truck and I caught Vapor on the way out. Next drop we cut Goose, Dolly , and Vapor loose in another swamp bottom. Dolly struck followed by Vapor. They started a pretty good track headed up the bottom and Goose soon opened as well. They worked the track about 450yds up the bottom alongside a creek and I soon heard Goose locate with 3 dying bawls and load up treed. Vapor and Dolly followed close behind him. All 3 dogs lit up the tree and we made our way to them. They were up a large leaning tree and I soon found the coon laying up at the top. We petted up the dogs and took a few pics and made our way to the truck. We called it a night as Drake had to be at work really early and I will hit the woods tonight. Y'all keep'em Lookin' Up!!

Hunt

Ryan and I hunted last night. First drop we cut Dolly and Flo in a bottom. They struck fairly quickly but it was not a good track. Dolly moved the track out some but really struggled with it. She finally treed and we headed in and she was up a den tree. Next drop we cut Rock and Vapor in a swamp bottom. Vapor struck followed by Rock. They moved the track good up the bottom and Rock located with Vapor hitting it almost simultaneously. We made our way to the tree and they had the meat. We rolled it out to them. We moved and recut Dolly and Flo. Both dogs struck and Dolly did a good job of moving the track out and soon treed. Flo treed with her. They were on another big den. We called it a night. Y’all keep’em lookin up

HUNT

We hunted for a little while last night. I caught a coon behind my house and we loaded up my Queen pup and Flo and pulled down to a big field. Queen had been aggressive on a different caged coon a couple of weeks ago but she didn't get really aggressive last night. Flo got after it pretty good and I cut him across the field. Flo ran him to the woodline and lost him. I eased in there and I saw the coon sitting up and sort of steered Flo the right way. She found the tree and loaded up. She didn't have the intensity that I would like to have seen from her but she treed on him. I shot it out and tried to get him out with some spunk but he didn't have much fight left. We moved and cut Goose, Dolly, and Rock in some hardwood hills. Dolly struck followed by Rock and they started a bad track down a small branch. They trailed out of the hills and hit the bottom. Goose soon opened about 800yds to the left headed up into some more hills. Rock and Dolly crossed the creek a couple of times and Rock soon treed. Dolly went to him and backed him. We drove around and they were in a large log pile that the timber cutters had shoved up with a dozier. We finally coaxed them out of the log pile and moved around to try to locate Goose. I could hear him open every once in awhile and we cut Rock and Dolly again. Dolly struck and Rock soon opened left handed of her. They trailed into a big cutover and things slowed down. I soon heard Goose treed deep. I drove around and made my way to him and he was treed up a den tree. I went back to see if Rock and Dolly were treed and Drake and Ryan had caught them up coming up a ditch about to cross the gravel road. We called it a night as it was 11:45pm and 5:30 comes early. We are going to ride down and hunt the state hunt tomorrow night. Ryan is hunting Dolly. Drake is hunting Rock and I will hunt Goose. Hopefully with a little luck one of us will do some good. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

Drake, Ryan , and myself drove over to the Alabama State Hunt Saturday evening. I wanted to hunt Friday night but I had to work late on some certifications and didn't have time to make it over there. Drake hunted Rock, Ryan hunted Dolly and I hunted Goose. I won my cast with Goose. I drew out and had to drive and hour and 15minutes to Coosa county. I drew 3 walker dogs, 2 males and a female. We had a pretty good hunt. Goose stayed deep and alone all night and looked good. All dogs had big motors and we did a lot of walking. The moon was shining and a lot of dead casts came in at the hunt. I won my cast and ended up winning 2nd place registered and 3rd place overall on Saturday night. They took the 2 high scoring dogs from Friday night and the 2 high scoring dogs from Saturday night and hunted the final 4 for the state championship. I missed the final 4 cast by 50 points. Drake hunted NtCh Southern Blue Rock and they made 2 trees. One den and one pine and came in with a dead cast. Ryan hunted Dolly and had the cast won until the end of the hunt and got minused on track. His cast winner knocked me out of the final 4. Ryan was pretty torn up about losing the cast as he had led it most of the hunt. That's how it goes sometimes. Dolly and Ryan will be in the winners circle soon. She won 3rd place a bluetick days a couple of years ago but hasn't been pushed in the hunts. We had a good time. I am going to push Goose in some hunts and hopefully have him NtCh and work towards GrNtCh. I have a couple of crosses planned with him. I love his motor and he is a nice tree dog. He is bred to reproduce so we will see. Drake has been hunting the Rock dog and i see some improvements with him. He has been stood up awhile and needs some hard hunting to bring him back around. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

Thanks guys

I appreciate it !!
Me and Goose are clicking together pretty good right now. He can be a hard headed sucker but he has come around to my way of thinking. He understands get gone , get treed, stay treed and I will be there to get him ,cutover, mountains,or high water!! I appreciate Keith Sparks for the opportunity to partner on Goose and bring him to Southern Bluetick Kennels.

HUNT

I hunted by myself last night. First drop I cut Vapor alone down a creek bottom. He left hard and struck at 400yds. It was not a good track but he drifted out and was opening here and there. He moved down the creek to about 650yds and I moved around to get closer. He took a left hand turn and headed up into some hardwood in the hills. He continued to work the track. I pulled around and headed around a hunting road and got within 300yds of him and he was in a big hollow with a small branch running at the bottom. He located on a couple of trees but didn't stick them. He finally half heartedly treed and I headed to him. He was up a poplar tree but he didn't have a coon. I leashed him up and headed to the truck. I had planned on cutting Rock and Goose alone as well but Vapor had used a lot of time. I moved to a swamp bottom and cut Rock and Goose up the swamp. Dogs left out hard and Rock struck at about 475yds. He started a track and was opening every once in awhile. Goose soon opened at about 550yds. They worked on up the bottom to about 675yds and I heard Goose locate with Rock almost hitting it at the same time. Both dogs were lighting up the tree. Goose is a chop mouth tree dog and was spitting them out like clockwork and Rock is a bawl mouth tree dog and was rolling one after the other. Both dogs are loud. I could have drove within 300yds of the dogs but I just walked up the bottom to them to hear the bluetick music. I got to the tree and I looked for about 6 or 7 minutes and was getting frustrated by the minute. I finally found the coon balled up in a fork that had some vines growing in it. I petted up Goose and Rock and headed back to the truck. That ole moon was shining bright last night and the dogs did a good job of drifting out and getting treed with the meat. I called it a night. I won't get to hunt tonight but will hit the woods tomorrow night. Hopefully Drake and Ryan will take the dogs tonight. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

Ryan and I hunted last night for a little while and it was a pitiful hunt. We cut Dolly, Rock, and Goose down a hardwood hollow. Dolly struck followed by Rock. They started a track and Goose soon opened up on the hill about 300yds to the left of them. Rock located and half way treed and Dolly hit with him. Both dogs ended up moving on up the hill. Goose was opening more than I've heard him open in a long time and was running in a big circle. I really think he was running a fox!! Dolly and Rock were getting deep and close to a road so we moved around and Dolly was locating but moved on again. Rock soon treed and we headed to him. Dolly came in to the tree when we got there and it was a den that ran into a pine tree. We headed to the truck and pulled back around to Goose. He had gotten quiet and was in a different area. I caught him as he was coming up a hollow about to cross the old hunting road. We regrouped and moved to a different spot and recut. We cut them up a creek bottom and Goose circled out and crossed the gravel road and headed into some hardwood hills up a small creek. Dolly and Rock struck about 300yds up the bottom and started working a bad track. Dolly soon treed and Rock hit it but ended up moving up the creek. We got to Dolly and she was on a den tree. I walked in and caught Rock trailing up the creek. We got to the truck and Goose was 600yds up a hollow. We pulled up to within 300yds of him and I walked in and caught him up and called it a night. Worst hunt I have had in a while. Dogs acted like they had lost their mind LOL!!
I will hit the woods tonight. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!

Cotton ended up having 11 pups. One pup was born dead and she has 10 living. Keeping my fingers crossed!!

HUNT

I guess there have been some issues with the forums as I haven't been able to get on here. Glad to see it up and running again. I took Goose to a UKC slam hunt Saturday night. I drew 2 walkers and an English dog. Goose looked good for most of the hunt. He got deep and alone with a coon but the English gyp and the walker male had pretty big ears. The English gyp covered him and the male came in after the 5. They other walker gyp split on a den. We recut and 3 dogs went to the same den and Goose headed deeper past where he had the coon. They older walker gyp treed and the English gyp and the walker male backed her. The English gyp and the walker male had treed and left and had several minus points. They had a coon and I was getting beat by circle points. Goose opened DEEP and soon loaded up treed. They English gyp backed him after the 5 was up and the tree was dead. I needed a coon or den and I win the cast. Goose had a big fat possum and got scratched for off game along with the English gyp. Old walker gyp won cast. We will try again at a Bluetick Sectional this weekend.

We hunted last night and cut Goose, Dolly and Jewel in the bottom. Dolly and Jewel struck and Goose soon opened deeper. They ran a good track and Goose loaded up followed by Dolly. They had the meat and Jewel was split on a den tree. We recut and ended up in a pine thicket. Goose treed and Dolly backed him on a big pine full of Honey suckle. Coon could have been anywhere but we couldn't find him.

The NtCh Rock dog that Drake has been hunting has been diagnosed with Ehrlichia. We are going to stand him up a couple of weeks and treat him with Doxycycline. He has treed a few coons but didn't seem quite right so I had him checked by my vet. Hopefully we can get him healthy and see what kind of dog he will be. Y'all keep'em lookin' UP!!

HUNT

We had a meeting and a big coon contest last night at our club. We had 14 people show up to the hunt. 5 groups went out to hunt. Drake , Ryan and I hunted Dolly, Goose and Vapor. First drop we cut up a creek bottom and Dolly struck pretty quick followed by Vapor. Goose skipped out and soon opened deep. Dolly worked left and Vapor hit up on a tree but moved on in the bottom. Dolly located in the same area and loaded up treed. We got to her and Vapor had came back and treed. Dolly had a coon and we rolled it out to her. Goose was treed deeper so I headed on to him after I shot the coon out to Dolly. Goose was in the hills on a large den tree. We moved and cut all 3 up a creek. Vapor struck and Dolly followed. Dogs started a bad track and moved it out pretty good. Goose finally got struck left handed on the creek. They worked down the creek and Vapor and Goose blew up on a tree almost at the same time followed closely by Dolly. We couldn't find the coon but there were already a lot of leaves on this tree. We headed in and had the hunt won til the last group came in with a large boar coon. 2 casts didn't tree a coon at all. Had some fun and some nice fellowship. Cotton has 7 pups living and looks like they will all be fine. Terry Tibbs called and Cotton's littermate sister is in heat. She is a nice gyp and he has plans to breed her to Floyd. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

Drake , Ryan and I hunted for a while last night. First drop we cut Vapor loose alone. He left hard and opened a couple of times but seemed like a bad track. We had gotten a late start so we pulled the truck up the bottom about 4000yds and cut Dolly and Ryan's pup named Spanky out of Goose. Dolly struck and started a track. Vapor ended up trailing in the same area but was about 200yds to the right. Dolly loaded up treed and we headed to her. We looked for a while and finally squalled and got him to look. Vapor came into the tree and he and I had a nice conversation about coming into trees late. Next drop we cut Vapor, Dolly, and Goose in a new area. We sent them up a ditch that leads into a swamp bottom. Vapor struck followed by Dolly. Goose made a right hand turn and didn't pay any attention to them. He slipped across the gravel road and got into an area where the timber was cut and there were only strips of timber on the creeks and ditches. Dolly soon loaded up treed and we headed to her. She had the meat and we leashed her and headed to the truck. Goose opened at about 900yds up a ditch. Vapor had went deeper in the bottom and soon loaded up right. He was about 550yds in the bottom and he hammered a tree and I headed to him. He had the meat in the edge of swamp. I petted him up good and we made our way to the truck. I could hear Goose treed and he was 1.13 miles from the truck. I lit out to him and waded cutover and walked up a dang mountain to find him treed in a swampy area up a poplar. I saw his coon as I was headed down the hillside to him. I petted him on the head and started the long walk out to the truck. I saw another coon sitting up on the creek as I was walking to the truck. All in all it was a good night. We are headed to Leeds to the Bluetick Sectional on Saturday night and hopefully get to see a few fellow bluetickers. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!!

I partnered with Ryan on Spanky. He hunted good. We plan to trap a few coons for him. Hopefully we can get a win at hunt. Thanks buddy

HUNT

Drake, Ryan, and I rode about an hour and 45 minutes to Leeds on Saturday night to the BBOA Alabama State Championship Hunt. There was a poor turnout for the hunt. We had some rain and thunderstorms predicted so that may have affected it. I hunted Goose and Ryan hunted Dolly. Goose looked good in the hunt. I had a split first tree on the first tree even though I got him on the tree. Next drop Goose got 800yds deep and alone with the meat and stayed treed for probably 45 minutes. The other dogs treed on a tree and left it, then made a circle tree that I voted was slick but it didn't matter in the end as I leash locked the other dogs and found Goose's coon easily. I won first place registered, high scoring dog and King of Hunt. Ryan hunted Dolly and he didn't win the cast but did end up being the high scoring bluetick female and Queen of Hunt.
Looking forward to hitting the woods tonight!! Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

Thanks

Thanks fellows!! We have been hunting hard so hopefully it will continue to pay off. I really like ole Goose and will continue to hit the hunts with him. He has a 1st at local hunt, a 2nd at the state hunt and a 1st at the BBOA hunt. 2 more to NTCH and then I will work on GRNTCH. I plan to breed Goose to Dolly when she comes in heat.

HUNT
Ryan and I hunted last night. First drop we cut Dolly and a 2yr old into a swamp bottom. Dolly struck followed by Rooster. They worked a bad track for about 500yds and loaded up treed. Ryan and I waded a swamp for about 250yds and finally got into some nice hardwood bordered by some large pines. Dogs were treed up a small leaning tree that ran into a large pine with a huge nest. We could not get a coon to look. Next drop we cut Vapor and Goose in another bottom. Vapor struck at about 200yds and started working left handed. Goose soon fell treed at about 275 to the right with Vapor soon backing him. Goose had the meat laid up in a fork. We petted dogs and called it at night as we had gotten a late start. Y'all keep'em Lookin' UP!!
