update from blue river.....
hey just wanted to fill u in on dog progress lately
first off i have to say that smoke passed away yesterday, no clue why he has been hunted the last week and when they went to hunt him he was dead, they had seen him 2 hours before that raising hell when they were loading the dog box getting ready to hunt.
Lilly my new walker pup has been running track steady for about a week, she has a nice strike to her and runs the track really good for being 4 months old, she never comes back and she is always at the tree when i get there. she now has 11 tracks and stays at the tree, and she has treed on the last 4 tracks and stayed put. im not saying she is tracking and treeing coon but she is out with the older dogs running tracks with them, and treeing with the other dogs. i have big hopes for her next year!
diamond finally got to go hunting this past weekend and she is so out of shape its almost sad!! she got hung up a number of times on crossing woven wire fences, ditches, and a large road tube. still a fast strike dog though and an insane tree dog! she is easily 10-15pds over weight right now. she has no strength what so ever so i have a lot of work to do on her before hunting season. she just hasent been the same since her nose went haywire from being sick last fall, then she lost all that weight, then she lost all that hair. cant explain what she had or why it took a better part of a year to get her healthy and neither can the vets. i assume what ever made her nose go dry and haywire has something to do with her weight loss and hair loss. when we took her in this spring she weighed 28lbs, last vet visit was 57l bs. and ideal hunting weight i think should be 45ish for her. im happy to see her fat and healthy with a nice wet nose, but at the same times im sad to watch her struggle with the extra weight. she looks like a pot belly pig lol.....
magnum has been hunting fairly well, got over his slick treeing from last year and has been driving a track pretty good. had a 2 1/2 hour track in the corn field the other night he just couldn't catch that coon. i seen that coon a good 4 -5 times at least 150 yards in front of him, he just wasnt quick enough. lily came in around 100 yards behind him on the same track, decided to go and get maker, dumped him and he caught the coon on the 4th lap around the field. usually takes one good hunt like that to put track stamina on my hounds, cant wait to take him out after that run
maker has been maker, nothing flashy nothing new just same ol same ol, drop track and tree. has caught 5 coon this fall so far on the ground, still accurate still just same ol maker, glad i have him here, he just fits exactly what my line of walkers are. reminds me of diamond with his track ability before she became all messed up and sick.
overall happy with maker and magnum they are right on track, diamond needs serious work but im up for it and know just some hunting time and she will be back to her good old self. lily is impressing me especially for being 4 months old ah should say almost 5 months in another 2 weeks. i am shocked that she is tracking so well, treeing well its easy for pups to bark when other dogs are barking, but tracking and trailing at that age takes some talent. she is everything she is advertised to be. hope all is well up there and take care from the bedward family
