I went over and hunted with Jerry my buddy that hunts Walker dogs. Jerry has some very nice Walker hounds. The kind that hunt deep and trees raccoon. Irene & willy split twice and had their coons. Echo & Rimmy treed one together & split one time & both had coon. 24 degrees and 20 mph wind made it rough on the old timers but we didn't have any competition for hunting spots.

Mr Parker, I'll let you tell the fine print on your hound. She also treed her share of the coon.

You know me Dennis I have nothing to hide and say it how I see it. I know my dogs aren't perfect like some. But I darn sure not afraid to show or compete with them. I learned along time ago to tell the truth. So that's how I am and will continue to be. No fear and nothing to hide.

Your right Jerrold. I won't be saying much negative about anyone's hound on a public forum. Josie may mess up like all young dogs but getting deep with her coon is her style. Your training a hound for competition and I'm stuck in the mud training one for an old man's pleasure hunt.

Hunting

I like your term "Old man's pleasure hunt" haha. I sure feel like that on occasion too. Have not heard too much on this post as of late so I assume the hunting has slowed down some. The cold and snow sure don't help here. I enjoy reading your thread and all of the folks that come and hunt with you. Hope things are going well. Ol" Tramp, Creek and I are waiting for warmer days to hit it again.

Take Care,
Scott

Dennis and I did some texting last night. He is laid up because of ice. I'm going to send him a few pairs of my old golf shoes with the steel spikes so he can get back out there.

Scott I have enjoyed coon hunting with Bluetick hounds for 41 years and some other breeds a few years before that. I'm a little more selective on the nights I hunt. Marty Mailes brought Mack up to show him a few coon Monday night. We treed 5 trees with coon. Jim Combs on Tuesday night we had 5 trees with coon a couple den trees & and a couple holes seeing the coon in one. I went to hunt with a dog that Duane Swofford had located on Wednesday. Treed 7 in the mountains and a couple with Irene and the dog I'm trying after driving home. Thursday night Steve & I had a tough hunt. Hounds had to go over a mile a couple times to strike. We had 4 trees with coon and a hard walk in mined land dumps to a beaver hole. Penny had one that she had attempted to bark to death. Not a good walk for two old men. I normally like to make 5 trees with coon. I feel it takes that many for a successful hunt. Last night ice all over everything and the recliner grabbed me.

Bob I text Combs about coming to Tennessee for a hunt. Guess his finger vapor locked, he didn't say yes or no. Figure he's thinking about the winter classic coming up. Hope Buster gets it done tonight.

Cowboys

They finally got it together last night to make it interesting, but had their typical outcome!! Done for another year.

I figured you didn't hunt because of the weather/ice?? Had our ice storm this morning, but should be back in woods in a couple days. Gonna have a heat wave for Iowa in Jan. the rest of the week. Take care, Ron.

Jim Combs was up to hunt. The young dogs treed two and looked good at times. They also treed a couple den trees along with a couple slick trees. They worked a track 300 yds crossed the road where they got to running. They ran it 3/4 mile to an old house. I would say the coon are rutting. Then the young dog caught one after a short track. Irene & Jack didn't get much ground time. First deal they struck a cold track and got treed in short order. Next deal was about the same.

Ron I would have enjoyed seeing KC win. There running game seems a little weak. Bet Jerry Jones has nightmares until next January.

Steve brought Penny & little Moe over for a hunt. I took Echo & Chance. Chance is a young male from Duane's Bo dog. Moe is a pup from Boomer x Flo and just turnt 5 monthz old. He goes as deep as his company and will flat take hold of a coon. We were treeing coon early pretty quick. After making 5 trees with coon by 10 PM we treed a big oak that all we saw was a big nest. Then a dozer pile and we called it a night.

Met Jerry for a hunt. The Walker power was ready for some coon treeing. We made a couple den trees and treed 3 trees with coon. He folded at 10 so I cut Echo alone. She treed a hot track. Then caught one. Irene treed two trees with coon. Bebee is pulling up to cut loose. First deal a big den tree. We sent from there and treed a coon at 600 yds. Next turn out they treed a coon at 470 yds. At 230 I was ready to head for the house.

Met Steve for a hunt. The old man was tired from a 3 am hunt last night and building Fence today. We made 4 trees with coon. I don't like quitting unless I tree 5 trees with coon but was hurting. I just enjoy turning Irene loose and seeing how long it takes her to get under a coon. I sure enjoy 45 degree nights in January.

Duane Swofford was up for a hunt. We made 7 trees with coon. If you want to see the type of hound that it takes to win the world hunt go hunting with Boomer. If you have a top female and have a desire breed her, you need to check this hound out. I've seen Boomer look bad, he's just a dog. Boomer leaves as fast as any I've seen, opens the instant coon scent enters his nose, runs a track with his head up but will work on a bad track. Gets his and his share of most everything. It's just a pleasure for me to see him tree coon. Looks, big mouth, smarts, the list goes on. Faults, the only two I've seen is he can't kill a 5 pound kitten. Should even run one as scared as he is of getting bit. The second is, when he can't make a track go, he picks his head up and gets country in a hurry. I mean in two or three minutes 800 to 1000 yds. I haven't hunted my Boomer pups. Steve has one he calls Moe. Moe was 5 months old last week. Moe will go as deep as his company, cross whatever water he needs to. Steve sent a text that he started treeing with Penny tonight. Take hold of a coon to hurt it. Boomer does have a couple litters a few months older than mine. I don't know how there doing.

Marty & Monty Mailes were up to hunt. We knew rain was on the way. The hounds got treed at .59 on a den tree. We sent from there and they treed at 490 yards. I went after the truck and the boys went to anouther den tree. I was able drive within 300 yds to the tree. The next dump the hounds struck around 1000 yds and worked 150 yards to tree one. Then the hounds treed one 830 yards from us. The storms were getting close so we headed in at 930. It's difficult to believe that 2 coon was tied for the fewest we've treed this season. The grandsons hunt was a short one and only treed two. We're blessed with lots of hunting spots and a good coon population.

Coon treeing has slowed down but still treeing 3 or more most nights. Treed 5 last night. I was sending Echo alone and she managed to get 3 treed. She went over a mile 2x without striking. Irene was sent with Jerry's dog and they treed two. Sure enjoyed the dog work.

Phil Davis was up Friday night. We sent Irene & an 8 month old pup from Echo x Buster. Irene treed one deep after traveling over 1.5 miles. Echo and Phil's gyp treed a couple den trees and a couple slick trees. Irene struck a good track close. The pup put in but Irene had left camp in a hurry. She caught a big boar at 700 yds. The pup was with her by the time we drove to her. The coon wasn't happy but not hurt. If I was a dog, I wouldn't run a coon if I was that scared of one.

Combs & I attended the zone I business meeting in Marshall with Roy Clifton. A great bunch of bluetickers at the meeting. I always enjoy visiting with Paul Vaughn. It was late when we got home so no hunting.

Steve & I treed 5 trees with coon Monday night. Jerry and I hunted Tuesday & Thursday. We treed 3 trees with coon seen each night. Jeff Lovell and I traveled to the winter classic Friday. I'm not sure we took care of all past & current problems with our hounds, but we discussed them. A BBCHA Board of Directors meeting was held at the winter classic. Thanks to all that were able to attend.

I brought a gyp home that I'm looking forward to hunting. Darrin Williams parted with Reblet. Thanks for selling her back to me. I know she's a coon catcher. I may not have the best two gyps around at treeing coon but Irene & Reblet are sure easy on the eye.

Took Irene, Echo and Reblet. Met Steve a little later. Then made a couple turn outs after leaving him. We looked at several coon.
