In a hunt a dog that will babble a little here close till the others get there head open and then get deep and treed will be the one that you lead your dog to. Hes probably got 1st and 1st while you got 2nd and 1st back there 3/4s. Then by time you get to him find his coon Ill be dang if there isnt just a minute or 2 left in the hunt. Kinda like when your ahead in football and you keep it on the ground and inbounds......play the clock to your favor.

Yes it's a strategy. I guided a cast in the state hunt a couple of years back and there were four hounds like that. We used all the hunt time on one dump. Three coons were seen with a cast winner of 225 plus. It's hard to compete in a high score winning hunt with 225 plus. In the elmination hunts it works.

Joe I prefer your style of hound that trees each coon it comes to quickly. One of my fondest memories was treeing off the leash and shutting out the other three that blew by it. That does not happen much . Ha Ha

I have wondered if many bluetickers have given up on breeding 1st tree type hounds? What do you guys think?

I want one to be first on the tree, i like the 125 and without a countdown its hard to get separation anywhere else. The elimination style hunts is really all that matter if you really look at it. Like the world hunts. and Yes I think hard headed folks have bred a lot out of the blue breed, hence why I left the breed. Im not spending 10-15 years trying to get something in a blue color that I can get in white right now.

bablers

now we are talking about bablers and every knows if you have no scrupels they are very tough to beat. if you don't care at all how you win you might as well make him fight on the tree also. i hunt most nights by myself so i hunt what i like . i have friends hunt just for the hunts and they think need a dif type of dog but i have dogs that have won as much as anybodys. as a breeder i don't think you should breed for one hit wonders i go for good solid coonhounds that are honest get through the woods coondogs.

Id like to find someone that hunts more or as hard as I do consistently. Personally I like one to get open quick and get tree quick whatever they are doing do it quick.

quick

yes i to like a quick dog in every way possible. i also feel if you carry a good honest coondog to the hunts your generally going to be in the winners circle just as often as carrying a trashy, babbleing or fighting dog and winning will feel better. are good honest dogs hard to find? yes Are they even harder to buy? yes

hey joe this was not directed to you and I bet you hunt a lot, what I ment was my dogs need to suit me on a nightly base. I bet we don't have that much diff taste because there is only a few that suite me and that's all breeds. I don't like second anything but I like a honest hound and a honest hunt. when you start breeding dogs you have to think about people having a opinion that your honest but when you just buy most of your dogs you can pile up the enemys it is just about the win that's why a lot have paid handelers do there dirty work lol im not scraping in any way if you get up in mid mo stop buy we will eat a steak and go knock one out

In my opinion, while pleasure hunting with my friends I would much rather walk to split trees all night, whether it be my dog or theirs, than I would walking to trees with all the dogs treeing.

Again this is just my opinion

l'm a hide hunter an this is how I feel the more they split the coons on your belt l have just as much fun shooting out yours as I do mine

I'd say somewhere about 14 of 15 nights most the time more depending in how hard it's raining. I think last strait streak was somewhere in the 25 in a row range.

Yea that's me, got kicked off for calling Elbrader a pussy. Guess I'll have to abbreviate next time.

I enjoy reading these post. I can promice most of you boys have never hunted with a dead loner. For those of you that say you cannot win with one have never had dog power. What most people call a dead loner is just a jealous hound. Trust me I've tried a bunch that was suppossed to be and when you cut loose and dogs get 1/4 of a mile in there and your hound is still with them is not a dead loner. Just because a dog does not back another dog treed does not make them a dead loner. If they will not back they cannot jealous tree or get jeolous b/c another dog trees a coon a head of them. If you want a hound that can win and never back it needs to have a big moter. We won about $8000 last year with one and only took one second tree all year. I cannot tell you how many hours other hounds stayed on the leash and hours she keeped the cast locked walking deeeeeep through the country to show them 2 lookin down. I am not saying you have to have that syle but I can promice you if I had 5 hounds at my house right now that left and got alone every single time. Got treed and was extreamly accurate that was clean tree dogs and did not do JEALOUS stuff that most are talking I could have all 5 sold for 10K plus in a month. I've got people calling me all the time asking if I know where one is that have $$$$$$$$$. Everyone says they do not like that style b/c they do not own it. You can win anykinda hunt there is with a dead loner as long as you've got dog power. Then again not saying other styles don't work. Anyone can win with a dead loner thats got dog power to go along with it. BIG QUESTION WHY TURN 3 DOGS LOOSE AND TREE ONE COON WHEN YOU CAN TURN 3 DOGS LOOSE AND TREE 3?

Everybody there own, but I hate pack hunting.

I have personally never made a dog pack hunting, time alone has always been the key to success for me.

Hunting with competition or friends on the weekend is plenty enough pack hunting for me.
