Ok my 220 has been giving me some troubles. Before I usually had calibrate the compass every drop then it just went haywire. Just did an update and it seems a little better.

I also updated my collars now my dc30 will not turn on I tried disconnecting the battery and that didn't help. The red light comes on when you press the power button. The blue light comes one when I plug the charger in but it won't turn on.

Mark are you saying when you push the power button the red light comes on but when released it goes off or stays solid red. Try plugging it into the charger and turn it on while hooked to charger and see if the red and blue lights flash.

When I release the power button the light goes off. The blue light comes on when its on the charger and if I push the power button while its on the charger both come on.

I assume you have checked the settings and you don't have it set to stay on all the time? Which one below is more descriptive of what is happening.
Could you be more descriptive in what your saying.
1.You set it on a table with the GPS on and the backlight randomly comes on and goes off on its own. It this is it then its obvious that if the light is coming on on its own without touching it that there is some electronic component not right or a short in it somewhere. Your only options would either call garmin and send it to them or send it to someone else to fix which may be difficult.
2. You turn it on and the backlight comes on and stays on.

What do you have the backlight setting set at? There is a setting to have it on all the time.

You mentioned you have Birdseye on your handheld. Not sure if there is any connection between the two.

Mark there are two things I would do. First take it apart and unplug your battery. Look at the circuit board real close and see if any areas are discolored or has a film on them. Clean the board with contact cleaner and gentle brushing from toothbrush. Pay close attention to the area just beside the off on switch.
If you have more than one collar take the battery housing off your second collar and plug that battery in. You don't have to put it back together, just gently push the off on switch and see if it does the same thing or comes on and works.

My two guesses would be corrosion on the board or perhaps just a battery because when plugged into the charger it starts to flash.

Bruce,

After you start a hunt and mark that location as the truck, if you move the truck isn't the truck suppose to move?

NO All you are doing is marking a geographic location and calling it the truck. It does not know the truck moved.

When hunting last night DC50 showed dog NW and not moving. She treed to the south and the collar was still showing that spot to the NW and showing a dog not a question. When we got to the dog turned the collar off and back on. When it picked up had her in the right spot and tracked the rest of the night. any reason it might lock up like this. Thanks

Terry I really don't have an answer but a couple questions come to mind.
1. When it showed her NW was she ever at that spot on the map or was the compass just pointing NW?
2. When you got to the collar did you notice if it was blinking how it was suppose to be blinking before you turned it off and back on?

1 yes she had been to that spot and it never moved from there.
2 yes it was blinking three times like normal before I shut it off.

Well the general answer is it lost VHF communication at that point and quit tracking her. Now to figure out the reason why.
How old is your DC 50. Most are generally new but the first thing I would do is take the screws out of the plate on the bottom and remove the antenna. Make sure both the mating surfaces are clean not tarnished.

Yes they will. Two things determine the damage. The power you run and the distance you keep the external antennas from one another, it will do damage in two ways . Immediate which is the least common. Damage over time which slowly starts lowering your tracking distance. A simple test is if your only getting 700 yards out of your small truck antenna the attach your magnetic truck antenna and only get 700 yards with no increase in distance you have RF damage .
All the deer hunters down here use CB or two meter radios. Five years ago they were burning up Garmins on a regular basis. They learned to separate the antennas as much as possible and to keep the power down on their radios.

How has everyones Garmin been working? If you have found an interesting tip you would like to share, we would love to hear it.

Probably the most asked question I get is on the ZOOM features and the MAPS AUTO ZOOMING.

If your map isn't staying at the Zoom Level you manually set it and want it to. Then in Map Setup and Dog Setup turn off the ZOOM Features!!

Lately I have been getting several questions on the tracks showing up on the maps at certain zoom levels and not being on there at other levels. On the 320 and the ALPHA there is a setting for this. I am just not sure why all of a sudden so many are getting that setting changed.

I know the ALPHA Systems are gaining popularity.

Any comments on how you like them compared to the 320?

Me personally with the ALPHA I have one dislike. That is the red pin that drops every time I touch the screen. I know if you touch the screen harder it will not drop but I ran a control room for a large power plant for many years with DSL and touch screen equipment and we were gentle with our fingers. Then when the red pin drops I have to hit the X in the lower right corner of the drop box and most of the time my big finger hits the box and I start NAVIGATION.
I wish that feature could be turned OFF as it would be on mine.

I have a 320 ? when I got mine when viewing on the map
were my dog was it would show the dog symbol, either running, setting or treed. then a few weeks ago the symbol changed to a triangle. Did I change some thing by mistake? When I touch the triangle with the pointer the dog symbol will show up but once I take it off it goes away.

yes you touched something. lol
here is how to correct it.

select map
menu
first thing on list should either say
show dog status or hide dog status.
Since yours is hidden it should say SHOW DOG STATUS.
SELECT THAT and hit enter.
