English

I unknowingly purchased a pup with yellow papers. I was like this ain't cool and then it hit me. That dog had to tree a coon before it was registered as English. That's better than breeding handy to ready cause they got papers!

If the dog meets breed standards and its gotta tree a coon before its registered sounds like it could only improve the breed. That's probably why they allow it in the first place.

Shawn I'm curious. The crosses you make are they pure bluetick to pure walker? When grown are more colored like a bluetick, walker or tri with ticks? I have a dark blue english dog that we are going to breed to a walker female later this year. I am excited to see how these pups turn out.

Some of my crosses have been pure Walker X pure Bluetick. The last few years it's been half & half to half & half. I have gotten every color imaginable. Mostly you'll get a tri-color or blue English color. I have gotten some that looked Walker, some that looked Bluetick, and some like my Nuck dog that look more Walker but ticked up.

Shawn thank you for the information. Have you sent any pups East of the Mississippi River? My cousin and a friend each have good Bluetick males and we have been talking about getting a female to cross with one of them that will not be of close relation to anything we already have. I like the looks of a Bluetick better than any other myself but the best dog I've ever had was a Bluetick/Walker cross.

Hey Jonathan, i have'nt had pups to go that far yet. Mainly i just raise pups for myself. I hope to have some pups around the first part of May. This cross will be half Walker & half Bluetick X half English, quarter Walker, and quarter Blue. Half brother to half sister. I will post pictures of both Sire and Dam when i can.

Croossbreds

As for as crossbreeds go they should be allowed to be reg.with the breed of choice by breeder.a croossbred hound should be allowed to hunt in major hunts.no matter what if he is a coon dog then he will show it.isn't the world champion suspposed to be the best coondog bar none.

Lets say a guy crosses a blue einglish dog to a black and tan, and the pups meet bluetick standard......Why should he be able to register that as a bluetick? More importantly, why should he be forced to lie about what he has versus be able to proudly register it as a crossbred? My point is, I dont want to keep the crossbreds out of hunts or anything else? I just want to call a spade a spade.^^^Jim Harper

They started this whole mess by letting a pure walker dog and bluetick dog be singled reg to the English breed.the best thing to do is let cross breeds be reg grade dogs.especially if the parents or pure reg dogs in there breed .this would let some old blood in every breed be used to help there breed get better.there's alot of people out there got iold blood in there backyard that say a set of pappers don't run and tree the dog does.

If it looks like a hound, sounds like a hound, great. The only person a hound has got to suit is the hand that feeds them, not a breed standard or kc. Would enjoy going hunting with one of these fine hounds like shawns nuck dog.

MY 2 CENTS

Let them in. If they meet a breed's standard and can tree a coon, then register them. No questions asked. It boils down to this. Hunters in $KC don't mind if they walk away with the money at the end of the night so why should anyone care if they take home the coveted plastic trophy? EVEN at the hallowed breed events. Heaven forbid one of these mixed up rascals with a white foot should steal their thunder. Great thread.

Room for everyone here, want to breed papers, fine, coondog to coondog fine. Lots of good posts here. Breeds were crossbred to start with, and most bred to whatever was up the road, horses did not travel near as far as we do today to get the dog bred.

Yep....I'm thinking about it. Don't hate the idea. We need to revamp our whole single registration process I think. Good thread! Appreciate everyone sharing their opinion on this.

I think it's great that you/UKC are willing to consider things like this. Whether a change is made or not, doesn't matter. The fact that the hunter can make a suggestion and it can be heard is great. Thanks for the response
