Hi Stonehill we ended up coming out and giving it a try. I gave a friend of my boy a Bluetick and he wanted to show it. He said he had been working with it, but it didn't look like he had been. He did get Best of show male in the open class, but that was not hard to do. He had the only male in open class.

I entered my big male Bluetick in the water race. He didn't do well for his first time. My kids said he stayed in the chute for about ten seconds before jumping in the water. I think the gate scared him when it opened. He placed third in that race.

I live very close to Keytesville. I will most likely become a club member. Can members go there to practice with their dogs?

We've probably all had that happen at least once or twice..Some of those gates are very loud and unnatural to anything a first time dog has ever experienced..Most will get over it, after the first time or two..

I hope they all had a good time and give him another try

As much as I go on about how much I like Cole Camp, I guess the only neg. I would have to mention is how LOUD their gate is...It's about the loudest one we have ever swam at...I've got a Walker female that simply will not go near their box..That gate scared the beegeebeeze out of her the first time I tried to swim her there. After that I would literally have to drag her kicking and screamin'!! LOL
I do have to say that she the only one out of about 8 different ones we swam there that has been affected by it though...silly dog

Float

I just take a milk jug or big pop bottle and fill with expanding foam with a heavy wire running thru it, with a few inches sticking out the top. Then just case skin a coon and put the bottle inside with the wire coming out the mouth of the coon hide. Loop the wire back on to itself and then attach a long rope to the loop and you are ready to roll.
If you keep the hide and float in a freezer between training sessions they will keep for a couple weeks depending on how long you keep it out.
When the hide gets to stinking just put on a new one.
I use a light 200' 1/4" rope and when done training I just loop the rope up and put everything in a feedsack and place in freezer, then take it out before going swimming.
Maybe not the best way, but works for me.

Badlandcat's method is almost exactly what I use for training.I use a one gallon bleach bottle, and I just use it empty. I think the foam may be a good idea though. You will want to use a thin, light summer hide from a fresh roadkill. Winter hides are too heavy.Do NOT let the dogs get ahold of this because they will tear it up and another thing is they will realize it's a lure and loose interest in it.

S/S

Hi, The starting box at Cole Camp is made on the same patern used by horse raceing. Each section has it's own door which all close and lock shut simply by pulling one of two lines going back to the Man on the crank. When He is ready for doors to open He pulls the other line and the spring loaded doors all open instantly. It does make some noise, but I think it's the neatest starting box I ever saw !!!! I've never seen one like it any place else, but there's lots of places I've never been. Can't wait to see You'all at Mo.State Ch. on Aug.26+27 at Cole Camp. Did You see the next day (Sun. Aug.28) there will be a B.S. + W.R. at Keytesville ? CYa

Was looking forward to swimming and field trialing at Bevent this weekend and Hebron in 2 wks, but my dog came in heat so I'll be sitting the rest of the month out.

Next month looks busy! Troy, Wilton, Plymouth, Spring Valley, Cole Camp....I hate having to choose when more than one is on the same weekend, but it's nice to have that many options!!

I think pvc pipe at 4in cut to fit a 35 dagree on each pipe then cap it drill hole in each one and fill with fome should work real good. just make sure you have the chage you are going to use first.
