Thanks everyone! It's sure been a pleaure hunting my bean dog. I appreciate all of the well wishes everyone has sent our way. I can't take too much credit though. The real folks that deserve the credit are Tim and Ken since they are the ones that made the cross. He looked good Saturday night. We ended up with 325+ and 575 circle. Now it's on to bigger and better things and working him towards grand. He's won two out of the last three casts he's been in and should have won the third but we ran out of time in the end and found him treed by himself in deep.

One day in the future I would love to try him out in the breeding pen and get a pup off of him. He has been one of the easiest going dogs i've ever trained and has a ton of heart.

He has made Nite Champion as a 1 year old. We'll see what the future holds!

One of my friends called yesterday wanting to know if I wanted a coon they had caught getting into their trash. I put it out on the edge of the field in the cage and turned Swag and another puppy loose. They found it but the coon was very fiesty and they didn't know what to think of it and shyed away. This was the first time Swag had ever had any experience with an actual coon. I hooked a chain to the trap and began to drag it back and forth. Swag went ballistic! He was face to face with it biting the cage, baying it for every breath. I let him fight at it for a few minutes and put him back in the truck and turned the coon loose. Waited about 10 minutes and turned my older dogs loose along with Swag. Swag hit the track and took it the direction it went but never struck until my old dogs got it going. When they struck, Swag got right in there with them! The coon went through 2 fences and Swag got hung up on the second one but after we got him through, he went to the old dogs and barked at the tree a few times and again when we got there. They ran it about 200 yards. I probably won't take him again for a week or two and let him keep growing up but it was a very positive training session and he did great for his 3rd trip to the woods. I don't like to show a dog many caged coons but I do think it's important at least to introduce them to what we're after. August-September is looking right for hunting him regularly.
