No James now if that would have been had a blue dog tree ed a coon by itself now that would have been amazing

The amazing thing I saw Sat was when I took my daughter down to David's he came out to the truck and was talking his wife came out and clapped her hands together and said get back in here and get to to work David sprang up in the air did a 180 and headed back in I did not he could move so fast

Good morning ...

Thanks corky ... You're right that B&T is a good coon hunting hound ! She's to fast for them reds to keep up ..wouldn't train roo with a red ... They just run around the truck .. queenie won the ga state hunt .. Love how she sits at the tree .. Me , Christian and jack had a good time hunting all night .. I just might make a coon hunter out of that little boy .. Roo is his blue ..

Wb...why would that be amazing ?? I thought y'all 2 spring up like that all the time ...

I have a question..if you have a dog that goes in the woods .. Works and works but does not find a track and comes backs .. Would you load him up in the truck and go to another drop .. Bc he's telling you that there is no coon.. Or do you make him stay out until he finds a track ? And the dog is a good coon dog ... ?? Need some input ... Thanks

It would depend on if that patch of woods has been hunted with a walker or red dog if so there probably are no coons left done be cleaned up like a shop vac on a pile of dirt

I guess I'll be asking a lot of questions and getting a lot of advice from all different kinds of people .. Then decide what I think is best .. Bc I dont have any one to really help me now .I like to hear what others think about certain issues .. Thanks every one for you're help. It alarmed me the other day while I over heard 2 people talking about this issue .. One ... Would almost beat his dog if it came back ... And made it hunt for hours until he treed .. Then most of the time (not all the time) The dog would tree slick or circle.. The dog was to dang scared to come back .... I think .. At this time .. He now only can be called treed ... The dog want want open up on track .. But even if this wasn't the case .. Is it better to load the dog up after a while of searching . Or make him hunt ??? Thanks ..

It all depends on the spot you turn out, how far they hunt out, and the hound itself. It mostly depends on what you want in a dog. If you want a competition style or pleasure hunting style hound.

shannon it would depend on how big of a track of area you were hunting, is the dog a wide hunting dog, does he cover the area good and are you satisifed he done his best, if so load up and go drop somewhere else. NO do not beat the dog. JMO............see ya

Thanks bb and Dan ... Every one knows I WILL not beat a dog.. Or hunt with some one that does.. In front of me..
The dog does cover the area well .. And is a good track and treeing dog.. And has won comp. hunts.. I have witness both types of hunters .. I know about what I would do.. But I wanted to hear what every one else would do and how.. To get more info. About it... My next thought is ... What if your dog is in a hunt and there is no track... And comes back... And the other in the cast dogs slick? What then ..

Guess . I just wanted to know ...... Load up VS. force them to stay in the woods .. What are the pro's and con's .. And what do you do..

James .... In march ..

most likely you were listening to someone that wants to win more than they care about their dog...the reason they dont want the dog to come back is they want it to blow out of the country and find a coon and stay under it until they get there to recieve all the points they get, if one comes back he will be mostly shut out on the track and not recieve these points if he actually covers the dog that is treed...I have actually witness people beating dogs for backing others that had the coon...again the dog has more sense than the person...if you have a dog that is tight on the track and basically barks treed the handler is setting on ready once he hears his dog to strike and within a couple of seconds tree to get all the points and shut out the others on the track...got to be a hard nosed and bring that situation up with the cast and discuss if the dog is silent or not on the track...hard one to get scracthed but is a rule...if my dog comes back after he has hunted a area i move on he/she is telling me I dont find anything and I pet him on the head for coming back especially in these mountains

james i think a B&T won in 2006...maybe others

For me I like a dog to hunt 400 to 800 yards. I don't like a dog hanging around me but I will give pups some leway with that. I don't mind if a dog hunts 400 yards (in my area of the state) and comes back and checks in, if that happens I will probably go to another spot. But I don't like a dog to go out 100 yards and come back in after a short period of time hunting, if that happens I will run them off (in that manner I feel appropriate for the dog) and make them go hunting again. I believe that if a young hound hangs around you it can be distracted and not focus on hunting. If you are not around to distract it that young hound's instinct is more likely to take over and it is more likely the dog will start hunting. I have found myself calling or toning dogs back more often than anything because they are getting to deep on other folk's property or headed towards a road. Time spent on the basics when they are a pup can make them alot easier and more enjoyable to hunt when they are grown up.
