Took Irene & Maggie for a short hunt. I left at 930 and got home at 1145. First deal Irene went a mile and didn't get after a coon. It was a ditch with a few trees the first half and then a fence row. She treed a coon after a short track the next dump. Then she went a half and never opened. Next dump she went 740 yds and fell treed with a coon. Next dump 3/4 of a mile and fell treed again with a coon. She worked a track a couple hundred yards and treed a slick the best I could tell. I sent her on she went a half and come within 60 yds and fell treed with a double. Maggie treed on a couple trees but not going very good yet.

Jerrold, can't say that I have ever had it happen. I'm just glad to see mine tree one together. Split treeing would be a miracle.

Duane Swofford was over for a hunt. We hunted Boomer & Irene. We treed a coon on the first two dumps. Then a hound mess up on a slick tree. We met Jerry for a couple dumps where we split treed three ways and looked at coon, then one together. Duane and I turnt out 6 more times and made six trees seeing coon in five. Guess we treed 10 trees with coon if I didn't forget any. Boomer is sure a super nice hound. I did forget, guess we cut loose 7 times and looked at 11 trees with coon.

Marty Mailes brought his young dog out of Flo up for a hunt. Mack looked good on track & tree on trail up coon. Irene treed a couple where she just fell treed. Mack didn't look good on those. We ended up treeing 5 trees with coon seen.

Cory's boys, Marty & Monty were up to hunt. They had their young dogs out of Flo. I took Irene & Maggie. Maggie isn't going very good but trees on most trees. John & Mack will tree good on good tracks. We treed six trees that had a coon.

The night my grandson hunted with me Flo & Irene treed on a large oak. The first thing Dylan and Jeremy saw in the tree was a big possum six feet up. I told them they better start looking for a coon. I had to look over the tree several times and almost decided they had missed the coon. I knew they didn't tree a possum. Jeremy spotted a light spot high in the tree so I sent a round that direction. The coon moved and I put him out to the girls.

Something like that will make you doubt your dogs if you don't fine the coon.

Phil Davis brought Violet & Echo up for a hunt. My grandson and his dad wanted to go along. We turnt Violet with Flo & Echo with Irene. It was around 7 when we made our first drop and 11 when we finished. We had went to 12 trees with coon seen. Echo is a loud hard treedog out of Bocephus x Flo.

Heath, Phil tried to excite me tonight. Echo & Irene had went in over 600 yards and got treed. A possum in a small tree 5 foot from where they had treed. He let me know that Irene had treed a possum but the 4 coon in the Hackberry proved him wrong.

Jim Combs & I went north to hunt with Paul Vaughn. Sure had a good time. We treed 5 trees with coon Friday and I believe 7 last night. Had some good hound work by the blue dogs. Paul & Tina will make your stay very pleasant.

Matt Merrill was up for a hunt. Matt hadn't been over in several months just too busy with everything. Buckshot & May had a good time. I took Irene and Maggie. We didn't get to turn loose until 7:30 and quit a little past 11. The coon were moving and we made 7 trees with coon and caught a big boar. The coon they caught was 600 yds from a tree and put up a good chase.

Kansas Season Opens

Dennis is Kansas Season Closed or are you just getting tired of writing. I sure enjoy reading about your hunts. It's not unusual for you to Tree from 7 to 10 coon or more on a regular hunt. Take Care.

Jack I have been hunting. Treeing a few each night. Phil was up one evening we treed 9 trees with coon, Steve & I treed 6 and I believe Jim & I treed 5 one night. John Bishop, Jim Combs, Richard Edinger & Phil Davis was up last night. It was a bit cold but great story telling kept us warm. We treed 6 trees with coon seen. This would have been a senior cast😆

Possibly looking for a coon dog? Steve and I went Friday night and treed 2 coon. One of those a small coon caught on the ground in tall grass. Last night Cory Mailes and his two boys come for a hunt. We treed 3 coon. No excuses but the hounds better get with the program or they're getting traded for walkers

Matt Merrill was up Saturday night to hunt. We had entered a big coon contest at Seneca. We treed a coon right off and sent the hounds on. Treed the second coon, believe it was even smaller. Left both setting and got the hounds out of a brush pile. Next dump we sent hounds in opposite directions to double our chances. Both directions ended up with hounds going over a mile and no strike. Next dump 3/4 mile no strike. Then 750 yds to strike and treed a slick tree. Then 130 yds and treed a coon that must of been still nursing. Sent hounds opposite directions again, Irene & May treed a coon. Flo & Buck went a half mile and didn't open. Opposite directions again and no strike. Next dump we treed a medium coon. Then a big coon, then a small coon. Matt headed to weigh in and I grabbed Echo & Maggie for the late round. They treed two singles. Too tough for the old man since then.

Steve and I took Penny, Irene & Echo for a hunt. First turn Echo & Penny struck a good track 250 yds in. Irene had went 500 yds right of them but headed to them but was a little late to get treed first. I normally allow Irene to follow me out from the tree. She got even with Penny & Echo for shutting her out on the first one. Echo & Penny hammered Irene on the next one. They struck right handed and got treed quick. We sent them on after showing them one. The hounds got deep and put one in a hole. Next dump Echo & Irene split treed from Penny. They had a coon and we didn't find Penny's. Next coon they ran a hot track 75 yds to a beaver hole. Irene was in the hole barking the coon to death. Echo joined her but it was a big coon. Somehow the coon got passed them and come out. Next dump they treed ,7 miles with a small coon. Decent hunt on a cold night.

I haven't been to Rods in several years. Rod has some big timber with high bank creeks or Hackberry ditches in the hills. Both can be a challenge for hounds. Plenty of big northern kansas raccoon. We'll be headed to Larned next week for a Pheasant hunt. Guess we need to take a hound along and run up and hunt with Rod.

Jay, I certainly will. May head up their and take a coon hunt with Mark Benson & Rod.

Duane Swofford , Jim Combs & Bill was up for a hunt. Hounds consisted of Boomer, Jack and Irene. Three real nice blue hounds. We treed 4 trees with coon, 5 den trees & for the bad a split tree both slick trees. Oh yea, a big boar that thought he was safe in a beaver den, he wasn't. Jack & Boomer are sure nice hard treedogs.

A few coon treed early in the week. Cory Mailes and his boys were up along with Jeff Lovell & Jim Combs. We had a tough time treeing 2 coon early but I went on a late round after they left and treed 4 more. Treed 2 with the grandsons on Tuesday. Kevin, Cory, Marty, Monty Mailes and I took a Pheasant hunt Thursday and Friday. We brought 39 Pheasant and a few quail home. Several cripples got away. Had a good time with some great guys. I sure enjoyed the bird hunt but looking forward to treeing some late season raccoon.

Duane Swofford was up for a hunt. Boomer had a good night. We ended up treeing 8 trees with coon, a den tree & one beaver hole. Can't wait to start my Boomer x Flo pups. Trey Melton has a male from the cross and two from the Rebel x Daisy cross. He put a video on YouTube of his pups getting after a cage coon. There impressive on looks and coon crazy. Rebel is back on the producers list at 5. He hasn't been on it since he hadn't sired a litter for a couple years. I will probably cross my Echo gyp to Boomer. Echo and Boomer are grandpups to Rebel, both are impressive treedogs with big mouths that go deep alone and tree raccoon.
