Took Merle and Blueduck back to the river Thursday night. As soon as I took off in the Ranger, I saw a coon on the wood’s edge. He was 50 yards from the truck. So I cut the dogs loose on him. They took off running wild like two idiots, barking all over the place, and could never get it lined out. So I called them back in and loaded up to try another spot. I went about ½ mile and saw another coon, this time I drove pass him and sent the dog back his way. Merle struck about 75 yards in, with Blueduck right behind him. They ran him 100 yards or so, then Merle lockdown treed. Blueduck covered Merle as I was making my way to the tree. They were treed up a Sycamore on the edge of a small opening next to the river. From out in the opening, it didn’t take long to get him to look. I let them have this one, then moved on down the river. A mile or so down river, I sent the up old road that ran between the river and a bar pit. They were gone very long before Blueduck struck. After 5-10 minutes, they treed up a big Pin Oak. I could see the tree good, but never did find him, I don’t think he was there. I caught them up and sent the on down that same old road. This time they covered some ground before stricking. But the trail didn’t last long, and they treed. I rode to within 25 yards of the tree. I could see the tree, dogs and coon, from the ranger, but couldn’t get to them. They were across a deep ditch off the end of one of the bar pits. To make a long story short, I couldn’t find a place to cross, I just went through it. After getting wet, I called it a night.
