I got a friend that crossed a walker onto his bird dog to get them to stay pointed longer. (see how dumb it sounds) ?

I have never owned one but I HAVE seen them in the woods and they do well on squirrel and coon. You don't hear much about them or see them in the hound world much because of the ones that do own them just pleasure hunt or they won't admit they are crossed. They are out there and several treeing cur guys hunt them.

It takes all kinds to make the world go round. Some people come on here to meet other hunters, learn and share from a serious stand point. Some come on here to talk about dogs they wish they had. And some come on here just to talk. I hunt ol cross bred treeing curs and have had some nice ones. I got one now that is bred just as good if not better than most "Pure" bred hounds you see today. But I guess I don't have enough pictures or slips to make them REAL dogs. So if you guys don't have a picture of your dogs on this forum.....I guess you don't have a dog. Cause seeing is believing..ya know.

I think its amazing how these half pointer coon dog studs never throw a pup that looks like a bird dog.

What's with all this miracle GSP talk anyway? My friend had one we never could get her to point a quall. I guess she was the one to breed coon dogs with. Probably would have been a hard tree dog had we given her the chance.

Everyone I have talked to that owns a Gsp will honestly tell me that they hate squirrels. I have been doing a lot of research on them and some of the blood lines and lots of them go back to gritty fur crazy dogs.

The guy I'm getting my pups from uses his as a shed dog and he was hunting her with his mnt cur and knocked a squirrel out to it and now all he does is just tell her to go find the squirrels and she trees them for him. He killed 9 with her a couple weeks ago.

I'm not hideing anything, hints this post, if they make tree dogs I'll X bred, cross bred, single reg, how ever I have to do it. A few months from now I'll let yall know how they are doin.

And I still have that video here waiting.

It's been a while

I stated this thread over two years ago. I had to do some digging to find it. I just want to thank my friend down in the Carolinas for making this cross. I got a 2 year old female this is 1/2 walker 1/2 GSP and she's on her way to making a nice dog. She has her issues but they arnt all perfect.

She is just now bred to a dog that is 3/8 walker, 3/8 pointer, and 1/4 cur. These pups should make some great coon, squirrel, big game dogs. The pups should be 7/16 walker 7/16 bird dog and 1/8 cur. Can't wait. Everyone stay tuned. I'll try and post pics later.

All that I know is a freind of mine breed his female to a top stud at the time (this was 15 plus years ago) and the stud owner told him that if the female threw any liver colored pups that they were his price no matter he wanted them becouse that was the foundation stock coming out and he wanted it back. And by the way this said dog won big in his day and breed female after female so no telling how many of todays top producer have a hint of an ol bird getter in them
