I have a question on my 220. I've had it for several years now and its always worked well. Here lately the compass doesn't work worth a darn. Will not point the right direction regardless of what I try.

On a side note I have never updated anything. It has always worked well so I never saw the need to update anything. I don't know if this would have anything to do with it or not.

Pat WASP was in error. It should of been WAAS

Basically, it's a system of satellites and ground stations that provide GPS signal corrections, giving you even better position accuracy.

How much better? Try an average of up to five times better. A WAAS-capable receiver can give you a position accuracy of better than 3 m, 95 percent of the time. And you don't have to purchase additional receiving equipment or pay service fees to use WAAS.

The origins of WAAS
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) are developing the WAAS program for use in precision flight approaches. Currently, GPS alone does not meet the FAA's navigation requirements for accuracy, integrity and availability. WAAS corrects for GPS signal errors caused by ionospheric disturbances, timing and satellite orbit errors, and it provides vital integrity information regarding the health of each GPS satellite.

How it Works
WAAS consists of multiple ground reference stations positioned across the U.S. that monitor GPS satellite data. Two master stations, located on either coast, collect data from the reference stations and create a GPS correction message. This correction accounts for GPS satellite orbit and clock drift plus signal delays caused by the atmosphere and ionosphere. The corrected differential message is then broadcast through 1 of 2 geostationary satellites, or satellites with a fixed position over the equator. The information is compatible with the basic GPS signal structure, which means any WAAS-enabled GPS receiver can read the signal.

As far as your compass being off that is a tuff one with no single answer. Could be several things. Updating and calibration of the compass would be the first things you could try.

Could you pm me how to update it. Last night I calibrated it four times on one drop and three on the other drop and it never did work right. I have usually had to calibrate it several times a night before. Never really bothered me so I didnt worry about it.

Had a Gentleman call the store yesterday and talk to Colleen while I was busy. He suggested that after clean your antenna connection as mentioned in one "tip of the day" that you put some dielectric grease over the connection when done. I do not recommend putting the grease on the metal mating surfaces between the receiver and the antenna. Just over the antenna connection once it is installed. This will keep moisture and corrosion from the connection. I have also used white lithium grease for this also.

Thanks for the call in tip!!

I have an Alpha system purchased a while back from you, for the most part works real good, but lately it has been freezing up on me at times. It will quit responding at the touch screen then it will fade to where you cant see the map then it will shut down. You will have to hit the on button again and let it boot up, might have tp do this a couple times to get it working again. I do have a 16 gig card in it with birdseye installed. Thanks Ron

First screen on the menu, click on show dog status. You probably bumped it at some time.

Ron the first thing you may try is to clear out all dog tracks or archived track you don't want. I would then update it and see if that helps. It wouldn't hunt to call Garmin at 1800-800-1020 to let them know what's going on as they may have some more info. Ron if you don't have day lot of saved info a master reset would be the fastest way to clean it up. Just hold a finger on the upper left corner or the screen and turn it on while holding your finger on the screen. Then just follow the screen instructions and select erase and allow it to start up. If you need to call me I will be at the store all day. 904-692-1568

Thanks for replies Bruce and Joe about the question of the tracks not on the same as roads and my position.
I have since located and enabled WAAS.
Interestingly I have noticed one of my collars are now on the same path as the roadways only deviating temporarily at times.
The other collar mostly is always parallel. At times matching the roadway .

I have been having issues as of late with my DC-20. Turns out the case is broken an I got water inside. I'm hoping I didn't fry it but I think it is. It turns on blinks one rapid then a long blink continues this for a couple mins then shuts off. Any ideas Bruce? Any one have an old 20 they would part with? Thanks for the help

Ron information on a SD card will not be lost. Only data you added to the internal storage of the unit such as tracks, waypoints, dogs, etc. then again if you are not certain just remove the card as it takes less than a minute to do.

Here is a tip for those that use the Garmin Magnetic Truck Antenna. If you suspect the antenna is not performing like it did out of the box. Remove the antenna from the base and clean up the connection.
