That is a fine Looking dog.

What a nice looking Bluetick. No wonder you guys use plotts and blueticks for kill dogs. I think you are breeding raccoons and bears to get that size. WOW !! I hunt a bluetick and a walker, last year our biggest coon we killed in years was on a leaning tree over a 40 foot drop and that coward walker saved that blueticks life by knocking him (the Bluetick) out of the way as he was ready to go up tree and get him. The coon then ran down and that walker pulled coon off tree and needless to say Moose the Bluetick crunched him while the walker attacked the tail at that. But he did save Bluetick from injury. I have only had 1 good kill dog that was a walker and he was best dog we ever had Findley river and Johnsons Banjo breeding.

Have a good day guys Jeff

has anybody seen a change in coon movement lately. just seems like it is tuff finding tracks that amount to anything.. most times the dog hunts for 30 min. without hitting a track then will just fall treed out of the blue. sometimes with a coon, sometimes a den tree. but havn't had a nice running track for a couple weeks now.

Yes Dan, i agree with you something weird is going on. Going to try and hunt the creek and river bottoms early in the evening. The 7pm - 11pm tracks just aren't working. I've tried early morning also, same results.

Same deal here. Some nights they seem to be moving good. Tree 4-5 coon and go home. Other nights we cant even get a strike. Very odd......... Jon

Nope. I haven't had any of that. I've had some pretty good runs/tracks. But then again Dave, you didn't believe me that I was getting any coon during the moonlight either.

jay, i dout your coon feel the hunting pressure. i treed more coon when the moon was full than i have since the moon went down. at least when the moon was full i was still getting tracks, they might end up in a den but they were out and about. its just been plain dead around here for a week now. 1-2 coon a night and thats it. no tracking involved just lay ups.

So you're saying I don't hunt as much as you?
I do have more then enough hunting spots to go to. Dave you should of been with me tonite. The trees were lit up, I've never heard this dog locate so many times before settling in on a tree. If I had your old Sassy female I would of cleaned house.(with a scorecard) It's like I told Erika over the phone, Its been a long time since I was in a spot like that where they were everywhere you looked. I would think it would of been an ideal spot to have a young dog in there. No roads around, and I'm the only one that's allowed to hunt there. The dog made 2 trees and I harvested 2 coon and called it a night.

Maybe the older dog is trying too hard to figure older tracks out, where the young dog is just taking the hot ones that come along? I've had that happen before, and felt that was what was going on, as my older dog was very stubborn once he was on a track he tried to finish it.

we've been having it where 7 p.m. to midnight, we get maybe one or 2 coon, from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. we get 8 of em! so i'm guessing around my neck of the woods the early morning is the good hunting but i'd much rather be in by midnight. kinda sick of hunting till almost daylight!

that would make sense other then the fact that once i picked up the other dog, i threw out my young male and he went in behind and fell treed on a sleeping coon.....im thinking different grade of dog maybe?

Maybe? Some dogs are just better in certain conditions than others too. Couple months and maybe the roles will be reversed. Just as long as they're not only good with the leaves on....

First dump-coon. Then got questioned by a deer hunter that has permission to hunt that woods. Second dump got to pull my dog"s foot out of a foot trap. Kinda wrecked my mood. Cut him again on the coon that baffled him last night, only to be baffled again.. That coon has a thing for leaners.. We'll get him!! LOL

Speaking of wives, I took mine out hunting last night. 2 drops, 1 good run right to a den. Oh well. Still a fun night.
