I am a believer that the ears are not just for confirmation but are necessity for hunting, Why do you think all hound breeds from basset hounds to blood hounds have long ears. They do serve a purpose. It is said, and I believe this, the long ears help keep the scent closer to the nose or to funnel the scent into the nasal cavity. That also why ALL hounds have enlarged naval cavities. You may or may not believe this but it is what is put out there, so the longer the ears to me not only make it look like a hound and not a bird dog but it also serves a purpose in the woods.

once you had a few ,
you will be hard to please ,
but if everyone keeps breeding all this TITLE TO TITLE crap..

you may never get the pleasure..unless you breed your own ..

i have an 11-12 yr old female here that run and treed with the old dog at 7 months and had to be bulldoged/cornered to catch her off the tree as she wouldnt leave the tree when we pulled the old dog off

she dont care what the other dogs are doing she finish's the track she starts with..

her grandmother treed her 1st coon at 4 1/2 months old ,just took her along to get her used to the woods,
the old blood dogs i had was wallering a track in a creek bed,she went to them and smelled around and run silently with a few winpers up the dry creek bed and climbed up on a sapling with grapevines on it and wined ,i looked and they was a big coon in it and the other dogs never knew where it was..

had to go put lead on her to get her off tree..

yep ,once you had a few natural bred coonhounds ,,you'll never worry about titles unless they are on a real natural bred coonhound..

I've had a couple of early starters. They went on to be good ones , but they weren't all that good at 8 months.
Just because they start early doesn't mean they are a coon dog by 8 months.

thats right..

thats what im saying u take and breed two tree happy dogs and thats what u going to get.. look at those two they are 8 months old makening tree after tree and no coon made i dont know how many last night with them behind our old dogs.. i know the male made two trees that were within 500 feet of eachother and you could bend them over defantly no coon in them.. he said he thought because of the parents being grand nite and all grand peds. they would be ok.. hes a good handler with pups too hes even started pups for me before.. cant blame the owner.. guys i dont blame either dog.. we just have to be more selective in our breedings.. and look at wheather the dogs in pedigrees are just dogs or are real coon dogs and if they are repoducers of what we want in our hounds.. its the breeders and hunters choice we have to be more cautious of what were doing.. steve..

he might be able to train them pups to check them trees before they lock down if he lets them know how unhappy he is with them whenever they get tree happy..

this is how i try to keep my breeding blood and i dont have much trouble with having to train them other than teasing the pups with a hide while they are pups..
